Drugging and Robbery at Gas Company in East Pattaya

PATTAYA:--For the second time in it’s history a burglary has taken place at the Pattaya Branch of the World Gas Company based in East Pattaya.

Police Colonel Somnook, the Banglamung Police Chief was called to the incident on Friday Morning and met with Khun Acharar aged 50, the accounting clerk at the branch who revealed that their overnight security guard, Khun Wunlop aged 34 had been reportedly drugged by their gardener who is then accused of stealing the office safe, which actually contained only 300 Baht in cash.

She revealed that 6 years ago, a similar burglary took place where 100,000 Baht in cash and over 100,000 Baht’s worth of gold was stolen from the office safe and since then only a small amount of cash and no other valuable items were kept on-site.

The Security Guard told Police that just after 1.30am, the gardener employed by the gas company, came to see him and offered him a bottle of Oishi Green Tea. He did notice the bottle cap seal had been broken but thought nothing of it and consumed the drink. Moments later he began to feel sleepy and woke up later in the morning to find the office had been broken-into and the safe had been stolen.

"With the company being owned by Police General Somyot , the Deputy National Police Commissioner it is expected that every resource will be directed to the investigation and to the swift capture of the Gardner who remains at-large for now."

All resources because 300 baht was stolen......!!??

This just about summarises police work and law and justice in Thailand. In order of priority, this should rank pretty low, but the wrong person has been stolen from.

Never mind the murders, violence, gang warfare, rape etc.......

Disappointed Thieves sought by Local Police after daring 300 Baht Raid

By Staff Reporter

Nong Prue, Pattaya: dejau vu for Local Gas company after repeat robbery...

Six years ago, the World Gas company in Nong Pru was robbed of its safe, containing, then, over 100,000 baht in cash and 5 baht weight of gold. At the time, the staff had no idea of who could have robbed them and the criminals were never found.

So it was a huge surprise to staff, when they arrived at work this week, to find the office windows jimmyed open and security bars broken, allowing a thief access to the offices of the business. Inside, staff found that the 100 Kilogram, ( 2 hundredweight) safe was missing once again, along with the small change box which contained about 300 Baht. But the robbers will have been more than a little disappointed… as the safe was, this time, empty of cash.

A man was drugged. Isn't that serious enough for you? Wouldn't you want an investigation if you'd been drugged?

Yes, but you are missing the point. All available resources, we are not talking a normal investigation here, and why? Because the guy that owns the place is a top cop.

Do you seriously, even for one moment, think that this is the most pressing law and order case in Thailand, or even in Pattaya, to throw such resources at?

"All available resources ..."

Do you seriously, even for one moment, think that comment is made seriously. That's just someone saying the usual thing that "no rock will be left unturned" or whatever and it was probably blown out of proportion by the reporter and/or the translator. Do you really think the entire force will be diverted to this? Even the headline should be a clue that they are being facetious.

Thais have a wonderful sense of irony and of the ridiculous ... an attitude some farang should consider adopting or they may have a heart attack and fall off their high horses from being perpetually irate.

Did I say the entire force? Nope. Maybe that is an example of the Thai ridiculousness you mentioned, that you blow things out of proportion.

But if you asking me, do I think a disproportionate amount of energy will be spent finding the perpetrator of this crime, purely at the whim of someone with influence? Yes, I fully expect so.

UPDATE

Three arrested following recent theft of safe from East Pattaya Gas Company

PATTAYA:--

Three men, including the apparent victim of a drugging and robbery at a Gas Company in East Pattaya, were arrested by Banglamung Police early on Monday Morning as the investigation revealed that the Security Guard appeared to have planned the entire incident in cooperation with the two other men.

The first to be detained was the security guard, who had earlier claimed he had been administered a drug placed inside a Green Tea drink, by the companies part-time Gardener, Khun Champ aged 34, who sells flowers on Walking Street to supplement his part-time income. Following their arrest, Khun Champ and a third man, Khun Maroot aged 27 claimed Khun Wunlop planned everything with the intention of stealing the office safe which he assumed would be full of cash and valuables.

The three men are alleged to have moved the safe to the home of Khun Champ’s sister in Rayong Province, where it was seized by Police on Monday Morning. They are also thought to have stolen Diesel from a Gas Tanker parked on the Company forecourt so they could fill-up their Nissan Frontier pick-up with enough fuel to reach the house in Rayong. All three were hugely disappointed when they opened the safe to find only a newspaper inside. The 300 Baht previously reported to have been left in the safe by the companies accountant was not present.

Hope it wasn't a copy of The Nation. That would add insult to injury. :(
