BANGKOK, Nov 13 -- US President Barack Obama will officially visit Thailand as a guest of the government Sunday and Monday (Nov 18-19), according to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Thailand will be the first stop on President Obama's Asian trip, marking his first international appearance after being re-elected to a second term in office on Nov 6.

During his stay in Bangkok, Mr Obama is scheduled to meet Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday to discuss a wide range of issues as well as to strengthen bilateral ties to mark the 180th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year.

Both leaders will also discuss cooperation at regional and international levels where the two nations have mutual interests.

Ms Yingluck will take this opportunity to host a dinner to honour the US president at Government House.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will join Mr Obama in Thailand and accompany him on his landmark trip to Myanmar on Monday, before heading with him to Cambodia.

The Thailand visit is part of Mr Obama’s Nov 17-20 Asian trip that will also take him to Myanmar for a landmark visit during which he is scheduled to meet with President Thein Sein and also with Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

President Obama will become the first US president to visit Myanmar and Cambodia. In Cambodia, he will attend the East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh and meet with leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). (MCOT online news)

Maybe he'll fly through Don Meung. They've just fixed up their immigration. I wonder if Obama will get a visa exemption on arrival?

It's only 1 day...barely. He arrives in the afternoon on the 18th and is leaving on the morning of the 19th. Considering the huge amount of topics that are supposed to be covered I wonder if he will sleep at all, or if it is all just smoke and mirrors. He is also visiting Myanmar and Cambodia...could he do that without stopping in Thailand? Unlikely from a political standpoint. If you look at the itinerary it seems the largest portion of his time will be in Myanmar. Surprised?
