Emergency C-Section - Where And For How Much?

Hello,

Me and my (non Thai) girlfriend are about to have a baby soon. The thing is she has a condition called placenta previa and she HAS to have a C-section, And it might be an emergency one - she might start bleeding and than we have go into an operation room right away, blood transfusion might be necessary and additional surgery too.

The question is - in which Bangkok hospital to have it and how much will it cost?

It's fairly simple with normal birth - the birth package prices are there. But what about an emergency procedure?

We've been to different hospitals. We were considering the Kluainamthai hospital in Rama IV (CS for 29k baht) but since we learned about the complication we moved to a government hospital in Victory Monument - Rajavithi. It's cheap but there is a problem with communication (their English is as good as our Thai) and they don't let me, the father, to be with my GF even during a normal check up not mentioning an overnight stay in the hospital or the labour room.

So we're looking for sth better.

Do you have any suggestion? We can not unfortunately afford posh places like Samitivej or BKK hospital. What other options are there?

thanx in advance!

Take the C Section package at Samitivej or Bumrungrad approx 60k. Total bill will be nearer 100k tho when you leave.

Can not afford that, and I'm afraid it might be muche steeper when you consider the risk of complications, additional surgery and blood transufsion.

For futuer reference, if anyone is looking for similar information, here is what I've learned about costs of this kind of treatment in Kluaynamthai Hospital:

+ Emergency ambulance 1500 Baht. (From Hospital - Mega Bangna Area approx.)

+ C-Section Package 29000 Baht. (Old Building), 35000 Baht (New Building) : Covers 3 nights in private room.

+ Blood transfusion 2000 Baht/bag (might be ~ 250 cc.)

+ Further costs might be added, when the newborn has some yellowing of the skin. The baby is placed under artificial light in a warm, enclosed bed. This cost about 5000 Baht/day.

+ Private room additional night costs 1800 Baht (Old Building), 4000 Baht (New Building)

Hope this helps,
