Anyone Using An Asus Dsl-N12U Modem/router?

I bought a new one about 2 weeks ago and the first week it was working great, but this past week the wifi signal keeps dropping and I had to restart it every other day.

I had an old D-Link Wireless G router before and aside from it being really slow, I never had any issues with the wifi signal dropping.

Any clues to what the problem might be?

Could it be overheating? First the device is working fine, but too hot. Then some contacts get loosen by the heat. There mightalso be some dirt on the ventilation holes.

I had similar experience with Cisco e3000. Temporary fix was to put an usb fan under the device..before it finally died.

What firmware rev? Update to the latest.

What does the log say?

What does dropping out mean, exactly?

No WiFi signal on the endpoint?

What IP addresses are getting handed out? Any conflicts? How many devices? Android?

I have two of these units in customer's premises' both working fine on True DSL. I had to update the firmware, mainly to use DNS servers. No WiFi issues.

It is sitting in the same place as old one, the modem/router itself is not hot. Will take it to shop and see what they say.

The overheating issue was a production problem that plagued many Cisco e3000 model routers.

Hopefully, your problem will be solved with the answers to questions from the likes of 'lomatopo' and others.

Will you post your progress here so we all can learn from this?

Hi lomatopo,

Firmware is 1.0.3.2

When I say dropping off, either the WAN or wifi light on the modem keeps turning off at least once a day. I would need to restart it a few times before it goes back to normal.

I've got about 3 or 4 devices connected, 2 android phones and the rest notebooks. I was using a D-Link Wireless G before and never had problems with wifi.

TIA for the help!

I took it to the shop I bought it at and they did a factory reset and changed the frequency of the signal. Told me that the routers our neighbors are using could use the same signals and cause interference. Anyways so far so good, if anything happens will keep you updated.

Glad all was resolved so quickly! clap2.gif

That 'ole wily and crowded 2.4 mHz band has been known to be the cause of many users interference! whistling.gif

Now the rest of us can have a better recognition of the symptoms of frequency interference.

Well guess it wasn't fixed after all, this morning had the same problem, all the LED lights were on and my computer could detect the device but not connect to the network.

I tried to restart and now it seems that it is dead and only the ADSL light is on, the power light isn't even on.

I've had similar erratic problems caused by a bad power supply. If you have another power supply with the same output voltage and same or more amperage, try and see if that resolves the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will give that a try and see what happens.

Firmware is 1.0.3.2

While you may have issues unrelated to the DSL-N12U, the current firmware rev. is 1.0.3.7

Believe the issues were firmware related. I ended up taking it to ASUS's service center and they gave me a brand new one as a replacement. It is currently using the new 1.0.3.7 firmware and so far it has been working well.

Also FYI the service centers that they list on the website are are outdated, Rama 4 location was closed about a year ago and the one at Fortune Town moved to Chamnan Tower behind Central Rama 9.

Thanks for the Asus Service Center location update! wai.gif
