If Thai women were cars ......... what would you be driving?

Allow me to classify Thai women.

-----------------------------------------------------------

1. The Italian exotics: Maseratis; Lamborghinis and Ferraris

At the top of the pile are the Thai Eurasians. Most Eurasians are the product of fairly recent liaisons between farangs and Thais, but a tiny minority have a much older ancestry.

Few farangs get to drive these cars. Most foreigners can only look at these finely-chiseled exotics (with their impeccable pedigree and overseas education), and dream.

The pleasures of taking a Ferarri Testarossa for a spin along the pan-Asian highway are limited to a few very lucky souls!

2. German sports cars: stylish BMWs and curvaceous Mercedes

When discussing German sports cars, we find ourselves in the realm of delectable Thai-Chinese women.

Much has been said already about these paragons of femininity. Is it their smooth, milky-white skin that is so alluring? Or is it their height, elegance and charm?

Whatever the answer, lucky is he who gets to drive an SL500 around the burgeoning metropolis!

3. Japanese family cars: Honda Accords and Civics

In this tier, we find ourselves among "regular" Thai women. And what fine women they are!

Often well-educated; surprisingly hard-working; and much more honest than one might expect. Such women form the backbone of modern Thailand.

Men who drive Accords and Civics around the provinces of Thailand should do so with pride. Such men have done well for themselves!

4. The lower end of the market: secondhand cars; battered pick-up trucks; Reliant Robbins

Little needs to be said about this sector. Suffice to say, it's a sector in which most Thailand-based expats find themselves.

It's a sector that includes women who left school at Mattayom 3 or Prathom 6. It's a sector replete with despair.

5. Insurance write-offs and scrap metal

How to describe this sector? And what would be the point?

This is a tier populated by women who "work". This is where you'll find women with tattoos and drink problems.

Think of all social evils imaginable .. and they are here in this sector.

The less said about these women, the better.

--------------------------------

So -- metaphorically speaking -- what car do you drive here in Thailand?

Are you the proud owner of a 1963 Aston Martin DB5?

Or perhaps you're the kind of man who worships his Mercedes SL500!

Then again, maybe you drive a Honda Jazz.

Alternatively, might you be a scrap metal dealer?
