Ex prince? How does that happen?

I think because the whole monarchy was abolished and family members are living in exile in various parts of the world. I believe his father is in Singapore.

So how does one greet and ex-Prince?

Ex Hail.

Absolutely splendid!!! 55555

It boggles the mind that no matter the subject, the Thai bashers line up faster than lightning with their 'witty' comments about tea money and corruption.

Welcome to Thailand my friend. I hope you enjoy your stay but judging from your post you are a prime candidate for the jet ski, tuk tuk, fake jems, sick buffalo and hundreds of other scams in the LoS (Land of Scams).. Please be careful.

You must be speaking to a Thai there.

Ex prince? How does that happen?

Ask the French or the Russians.

But they don't actually lose their titles.

Change of government to a maoist communist one about 15 years ago

So he is the deposed prince, doesn't change the fact he was born and titled a prince.

So in that case he is lucky that he has not been charged with the offence of bringing the institution of monarchy into disrepute - a much more serious charge than possession of mariujana...

Police found roughly three grams (0.1 ounces) of marijuana.

Guess they searched him rather thoroughly. sad.png

More than likely (considering the miniscule amount) that the pot was a plant by the BIB.Seen it with my own eyes before.

I think that the maoist abolished these titles so he is no prince anymore if this country doesn't have these titles anymore.

I remember Austria also abolished these titles and there is from time to time some pressure to allow such titles again, or some tried to have the titles in their name.

It's not bashing, to write about common behavior of officials. Years of experience, that you would have to prove wrong!

Also it's not 'Thai bashing', if it's about the well known corrupt structures in the authorities departments/structures (in Thailand).

And last but not least: It was about PHUKET POLICE FORCES/AUTHORITIES (That should be enough said, usually)

Sorry, but I disagree. I have been living in Thailand for 3 years now, and have been treated with the utmost respect by all government officials, including immigration, the land office and the police force. I have my own car with which I have driven months on end through Thailand. Got fined once for speeding, more than 20 km too fast, 400 baht, and once for a parking violation, 400 minus 200 baht discount because I told the officer in charge that I was not familiar with that particular rule. Nobody ever hinted towards `tea money`.

I am sure there is corruption in Thailand. as there is in a majority of countries. I consider it rather rude to live in a country and then nag all the time how corrupt it is. If you can´t take the sour but only want to enjoy the sweet, then either move to a country that is not corrupt, or accept Thailand as it is, with all its advantages and disadvantages.

I have also been a regular visitor of Thaivisa forums for more than 3 years, and I see a lot of complaints and nagging about Thailand, but hardly ever a nice word or compliment.

Even in cases like this one, where the police apparently handled the case according to the book, people are nagging a lot. Grumpy old men?

Actually, Thai at Heart is correct. Being born a noble you shall die a noble, unless stripped from the title by a monarch (in very few countries of the world where it's still possible). So one might not have a kingdom or a duchy to rule, but one will still be a prince, duke or a king. And yes, Russian aristocracy did keep their titles after the revolution, they just lost any hereditary rights to their lands or other inherited privileges.

Why Not ! its a way of life here...........corruption reigns supreme !

That would have to happen at home

If bringing your monarchy into disrepute was a crime, there wouldn't be many of them left in Europe that's for sure.

Corruption in Thailand? How very dare you!

You'll be saying there's prostitution next.

Go to the naughty step immediately.

But then the Nepalese government would have to come and save him.

Shah became heir to the throne in 2001 after his cousin, former crown prince Dipendra, killed nine members of his family including the king and queen in a drink-and-drugs-fuelled rampage before apparently turning his gun on himself.

Sounds like a lovely family.

As far as I remember the story, also seen in TV Documentation in channel provided be True Move, was Prince Dipendra in Love

and a relationship with a woman, which did not fit in the marriage plans of the family.

That triggered the incident.

Isn't accusing a member of the royal family of committing crime considered lese majeste?

If you go to the world section you will notice that people comment on other races and nations as well. Just that this one is dedicated to thailand. People even have a go at thier own country so I do not think it is Thai bashing. Thailand is not pure and above critisism and can't be defended to the end of the world. It has many good points but it has it's fair share of faults as well.
