Rambling Man
"who had been either dumped or drowned in a Pond." Well, which one is it? Most people who have stab wounds and are found in a bag don't typically die from 'drowning'. Jeeze.

The coroner will need to see if water entered his lungs as evidence of drowning and whether the stab wounds were sufficient to cause death.

965purity
stabbed multiple times in the head, torso and ankles This is possibly a bad translation with the original source saying the victim's Achilles tendons had been cut. If so, this a "message wound". It says that the victim tried to walk away with someone's cash or property, or otherwise ran out on some arrangement.

webfact
Unidentified foreigner found tied up, dead in Patong Hill rubber plantation Phuket Gazette PHUKET: -- The body of an unidentified foreigner was found in a rubber plantation on Patong Hill tied up and wrapped in a black plastic bag yesterday afternoon. “The body was that of a Caucasian man. A plastic bag covered the top half of his body and he was found face down on the ground. His face had obviously been struck with a heavy object and there were several stab wounds in his back,” Thung Thong Police Superintendent Kraithong Chanthongbai said. The man was between 175 and 185 centimeters tall, about 90 kilograms and in his 30s, police said. Police suspect the man had been dead for about three days before the local villager discovered the body 2 kilometers from the nearest road on a 10 rai rubber plantation in Kathu. “The man was probably murdered somewhere else and then dumped here for hiding,” said Col Kraithong. Police believe there will be several suspects in the case, citing the fact that whoever dumped the body probably was familiar with the plantation and had access to a four-wheel drive vehicle in order to get the body so far away from the nearest road. “Where the body was found is an isolated location, it is not a surprise someone tried to hide the body there,” said Col Kraithong. “The body was transferred to Patong hospital for further examination,” he added. Here is more: lower leg wounds are often defensive wounds as the victim falls on his back and uses his legs to fend off an attacker.

anon467367354
a blow to the head and multiple stab wounds, bound and stuffed in plastic is "execution style"? I wonder if he was tied afterwards for the convenience of transporting. for some reason I thought "execution style" was a shot to the back of the head in a true cowardly fashion. Popular Post antpet
It sounds self inflicted to me but then I'm no forensics expert. Neither are the Thai authoriities. I expect them to agree with me. I think the deceased will be found to have owned a ground floor apartment; hence no balcony to jump from. The description has me worried as it fits everyone I know here in Pattaya: old, bald, fat. I'm spending the day ringing round friends to see if it is them. Some of them, the most hardened of drinkers will travel miles to find the cheapest Chang so Phuket doesn't bar them from an iced beer - if the price is right. I wrote only last week of when the next horrific rape and murder would occur in Phuket. Maybe things are getting better if we've just got the danger of being horrifically murdered. If rape/murder is reducing at least our wives and daughters will survive us. What a way to go. Terrible. I expect the criminal thinks that the watch they stole and the mobile phone too makes the crime worth while. The value of a life then. Of cours eit could be something more sinister such as the ubiquitous business conflict. The definition being some low life criminal Thai wanted to extort money from you. A request with menaces that you declined. Will anyone ever be found responsible? What do you think? Well that's certainly not a place high on my bucket list. Bucket list. Things to do before you die. Just before you die actually. Stabbed. Strangled. Asphixiated. Thai forensics to the rescue then. But to be fair they are developing a new technology to Thailand in their sterling efforts to reduce crime. It's called finger printing and a Police report explained it as being something to with lines on the skin a bit like a road map where you can find a good place to eat before you get there. Maybe have som tam too. Personally, I'm not getting my hopes up. Edited December 1, 2012 by antpet
Popular Post catmac
Obviously suicide........... Seriously though, what a nightmare Phuket would seem to have become. Like a previous poster, we visited Patong the year before the tsunami, loathed the overpricing and surly attitude and never have or will return.

Then again so does Pattaya. Bangkok is not exactly a safe haven either, just depends where you live! Exactly the same in Phuket and Pattaya. It also gets more dangerous when you are involved with criminals. I am not saying this is definitely the case here as we don't yet know. just that they quote "execution style". The vast majority of crimes we read about involve people involved themselves. In this respect thailand is no different to any other country. The majority of violent crime is always in the most densly populated areas.

It appears that tourist are still not afraid of travelling to Puket. Just curious, I wonder how Puket's crime rates stand with other major tourist destinations? Good question. Considering around 3mill tourists visit Phuket every year and there is a very large number of expats living here, is the murder rate still proportionally high compared to Pattaya and Bangkok? What I get annoyed about are the Phuket bashers who come out of the woodwork, insert themselves into every thread of this nature without adding to the actual subject. They just want to bleat their hatred of a province some have never visited (or they once spent a short time in the small town of Patong on the west coast of the Province).
