The 4 Times Lunch Story

Last month it took a tour(siemriep bkk) and on the way back i got on the wrong mini van at poypet to bkk. This is what happened:

We and 8 other farang were sitting in the van being relaxed because we just had lunch and a short wait and we were on the way from the border to bkk when the driver decided for us to have a lunch break at aranyaprathet. So it meant the driver needed to have lunch so we were relaxed about it and waited 30 minutes. When we were about to go of to bkk the driver got a call that 2 passengers he took(me and my GF) were from a different travel agency and should be taken back to poypet to get on the right van. Ok no problems keep smiling, eventually it was my fault because i just got on the van and the driver didn't complain about it.

Anyway.. I explained the situation to my fellow farangs and they were disappointed but they were cool about it, so we went back to poypet, and i was kicked out of the van. And the van went of to bkk with 2 new passengers(very logistically sound!).

So we had to wait for the next van from theright company to take us to bkk so we had lunch again, street food cars selling moo ping and sticky rice and some fried chicken.

Finally after 1 hour we got on the new and right van from the right company! Again with new happy farangs feeling good because we were finally back on the way to bangkok.

The driver stopped at aranyaprathet(15 minutes into the drive). He announced we should have lunch nota bene at the same restaurant we stopped before with the wrong van.

I am in Thailand i keep smiling and i am already thinking smoking a cigarette at this restaurant where i could become a regular how i am going to explain this story to someone. This time some more vans stopped at the restaurant at aranyaprathet when i was smoking there with the lady boss of my regular restaurant contemplating and chatting in half thai. The doors opened and a lot of farangs come stepping out of the van completely mad and angry and yelling at the driver and anyone. They only thing i told them was: "Why are you angry?"You are in Thailand on a holiday.¨ The Thai owner of the restaurant looked at me and told me: "The farangs will never understand, we have to keep smiling"....

its only thrice isnt it?

You've got 783 posts. Means: a) You've been here awhile and/or b ) You have idle time on your hands.

The angry falangs (possibly tourists) just lost some significant percentage of the increasingly rare leisure time they worked all year to get. I can understand getting a little cheezed off if incompetence robs me of my vacation days, or makes me late for my next "adventure". Not that I admire that trait, just that I understand it.

Heck, they may have been trying to catch the next show of the floating nun of Kanchanaburi...

Sometimes I can "keep smiling," but I would be lying if I said that I never 'lose it' occasionally. It's cumulative.

I'll be at 1000 this week if i get answers like this. Floating nuns. Yeah!

Everybody needs to see the Floating Nun at Kanchanaburi once, just so you can say you saw her.

If you go back twice, that's on you.

At least you never went hungry.

Once you understand that there a work breaks between meals, you'll be okay here.

An amusing story that, for those of us who have lived here or, like your good self, spent considerable time here, can relate to.

What happened about dinner ... rolleyes.gif

Yes, living. That includes NOT working. Just living. I think working distracts one from real life and things that really matter.

Yeah, but the money sure comes in handy.

In fact, I have found that being broke 24 hours, 7 days a week is a LOT more distracting than working 8 hours, 5 days a week.
