Thailand has been one of the worst places for me to get advice,

Farang often give the wrong advice for a myriad of reasons.

Thias do it to save face, or often times due to culture and a different mind set, the exact opposite of the avice is often best.

Just a heads up for the unititated.

I've never met a "broke drunk farang", if they are broke, they can't afford to buy alcohol, so they are not a "broke drunk farang" they are a "broke farang"

I think it peculiar that "Thai bashing" is considered such a no no by many people, but the same people consider "Farang bashing" perfectly OK

You will note from my post that I referred to Farang that have been here a long time, not .broke drunk farang Most of them will give really good advice to newcomers to Thailand. They have the experience and know what's what.

So what happened. We are listening.

Put it simple.

Look at the guy you're talking to. What he is doing, where he comes from.

Back home, would you trust him ? Actually, would you even talk to that guy ?

The rule is simple, you shouldn't do here what you wouldn't do back home.

Always go with the gut feeling its the best bit of advice I would ever give to anyone anywhere ...

A chap told me never to drink in a bar with Thai chaps in it. I thought it strange at the time. But now agree. A healthy suspicion of everything including authority works anywhere for me.

its nice to get a bit of advice when traveling to new areas and yes there is a lot of foreigners pushing there own barrows but that is everywhere in the world otherwise nobody would get ahead , what i hate is when a lie can get somebody in to real trouble .

1) Never base your future on advice given in a bar. If you choose to follow up on something that has been said in a bar, get a second opinion before acting on it.

2) If you are looking for advice on a particular subject, ask someone knowledgeable on that subject, preferably as close to the subject source as possible. Don't ask a carpenter how to reformat a server; it is possible that they will know something about it, but probable that it will be wrong!

3) If the advice you seek is related to Thai officialdom (immigration, work permit, etc.), ask the related department. You will be surprised how much they can help, which goes against a lot of others opinions.

Note: Item 1) above is advised through experience; I have seen people give advice with the best intentions in the world to people, and they have been totally wrong because they have not been current with changes in the topic they have been advising on.

Than you never have been in a Tourist area......Even near my old company was one who got 200 Euro per Western Union from his mother every month and had a lot good advices for everyone....

Then again some lessons just have to be learnt on one's own...all the advice in the world is of no avail.

A good sense of direction would be far better IMHO
