Cabinet approves Royal Decree on Senate election

BANGKOK: -- The cabinet has approved a Royal Decree on the new Senate election in April.

The Royal Decree was approved by the cabinet at its weekly meeting here on Tuesday.

Under the Royal Decree, the election of the whole 200-seat Senate will be held on April 19, 2006, according to Deputy Government Spokeswoman Sansanee Nakpong.

The term of the present 200-seat Senate will end on March 21 and, according to the Election Commission of Thailand (EC), the election of the new 200 senators is to be held within 30 days.
