Got a type B visa for 90 days, gonna get a one-year work permit in place, and next is to extend the type visa to one year.

Anybody can advise what is the best way to do it? Should one hire a lawyer to do the extension for 20,000 baht in Thailand with no visa run required or return to home country to apply for the extension but need to do visa run after each 90 days? Can we do it on our own in Thailand? Any obstacles involved?

Hope to hear from fellow members ...

It's typically your employer who arranges the work permit, then does the one year visa.

Or if this is your own company then it's probably worth finding someone or some company who has done it before. (Not necessarily a lawyer; just any chick who's worked in HR for a company that employed foreigners will do)

If you meet the requirements for extension of stay it should not cost 20k to obtain even with legal help as the actual extension is only 1,900 baht per year. If company is not helping with someone getting paperwork together it might be best to pay for a service but would not be looking at paying that much just for extension hand holding/paper sorting.

I was wondering whether it's worthwhile doing it myself, 20,000 baht seems a lot to me! I've spent close to 50k baht for Company set up and WP application.

As mentioned in my earlier posting, I could go back to my home country to get the Type B Visa extension to a year with the work permit as a supporting document. But the lawyer said I have to leave the country every 90 days if I were to do that. I can get a multiple entry visa for a year, with no visa run, only if I do the extension in Thailand. I wonder anyone has done this before and advise is there any obstacle to do it ..

a 1 year extension of stay costs 1,900 baht and you might like to get a (multiple) re-netry permit if you want to travel. The re-entry permit is 1,000 for a single or 3,800 for a multiple.

For a 1 year extension of stay you would need to have an income of 50,000 a month, proven with tax papers. You will also need tax papers from the company over the last year or even last 2 years, which a new company of course will not have.

blink.png Then perhaps you need to explain exactly what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to set up a business here in Thailand ... or are you working for a Thai company.

In each case there are certain financial and legal requirements you need to comply with.

Depending on that you can EXTEND your current visa for a year (or more) but the visa work permit experts here on the visa forum section will need to know the details to advise you of what you can do.

As you have now indicated this is a new company with no tax records you have no choice as extensions will not be possible and the best you can obtain is a multi entry non immigrant B visa for up to 90 day stays.
