I have a trip ahead which I am preparing for. I will go to Malaysia(by land) for 2 weeks and then come back to Thailand (by air) for a transit to go to India.

Do I have to apply for a leaving permission on ED visa twice on this? Or there are other ways to use one permission with double entry?

Thanks for your help.

If you plan to return from India you will need two re-entry permits and return during your current permitted to stay period.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I will return from India as the last return. My plan goes this way: Thailand > Malaysia > Thailand > India > Thailand - about 2 months period.

However for the first entry I will stay in Thailand in a short span of time only for transit as my ticket to India takes place from here.

So I just ask the immigration I will need two re-entry permits? Don't they require me to come again for the second re-entry permit when I arrive from my first return? How about the fees?

How long each re-entry permit will last? Is there a return time obligation after leaving the country?

The re-entry permit will be valid for your current permit to stay. You have not stated whether you are really on a visa entry or an extension of stay obtained from immigration.

You can only get one single re-entry permit at a time. There is a re-entry permit office at the airport where you could get your 2nd re-entry permit if you wanted to.

You can get a multiple re-entry permit for a cost of 3800 baht that would allow you to make an unlimited number of trips for you entire permit to stay.

You can stay out of the country as long or as short (hours even) as you want as long as the re-entry permit is valid.

Many thanks for your complete information.

I am on an ED visa since last month and I haven't applied for a re-entry permit yet.

I will get one when I'm leaving at the airport and when I'm back I will obtain another one there for the next trip out of Thailand as you instructed I can get one single re-entry permit at a time.

For how long is the re-entry permit valid after departure?

Thanks.

Have you made a trip to immigration and gotten an extension of stay which cost 1900 baht yet?

A re-entry permit will only be valid for as long as your current permit to stay date.

In example: If you entered last month on the 15th and got 90 days on entry your permit to stay would be until approx 15 February 2013 which would be the date you have leave the country or return using your re-entry permit.

Do you understand what a re-entry permit is? It does not allow you to stay in Thailand at all - it only allow you to return and continue to use your current permitted to stay entry until it expires (you will get the same permitted to stay until date that you had when you applied for the re-entry permit. So it is valid for entry up until the date you are permitted to stay when it was obtained.

I exactly arrived Thailand on the date you mentioned!

I understand now. My first extension of stay has started about one month ago, which will last until mid February therefore if I obtain a re-entry permit it will be valid until then.

I plan to depart after my next extension of stay, so I get about 3 months validation on a re-entry permit.

Many thanks for the clarifications.
