How To Say Sink / Drain (Rubber) Plunger In Thai?

Featured Replies

For those overflowing moments of blockages we all experience ... ?

เครื่องมือสำหรับดูดท่อน้ำทิ้ง

or

ลูกสูบ

Edited by MJCM

I agree with MJCM's suggestions.

I would add that we bought the tool you describe and which I have always known as a plumber's plunger. Neither myself nor she-who-must-be-obeyed (she is Thai) knew the correct name for this tool and so descriptions including pum' meur (hand pump), pum' doot (suction pump), pum' lom (wind/air pump), with references to rubber (yaeng), were succesfully used.

You could also use kruang meur (hand tool/instrument/machine) in place of pum' meur (as MJCM does) or pum'.

I add my/our own ideas in addition and as alternatives to MJCM's options, not as a contradiction of them.

Sorry I can't give a more precise translation for you. You might have to make do with a description based on mine and MJCM's input and then enhance it with a mimed demonstration - try not to make your mime look too vulgar.....

Good luck! Happy plumbing!

I have a recently bought one that still has the supermarket label on it - yarng pum hong nam. I think you will have trouble with ลูกสูบ as that is the generic name for a piston in any type of pump or engine.

I agree with the last post. Other names are: ไม้ปั๊มส้วม,หัวปั๊มส้วม,ยางปั๊มส้วม,ปั๊มที่ดูดส้วม
