I was sitting at the light of the intersection of Thepprasit and Sukhumvit. Sirens were blaring, 3-4 police escort cars pulled out and blocked Suk in both directions. I assumed it was a royal motorcade, or something like that.

But no! About 2 minutes later 4 brand new supercars go SCREAMING through the intersection and head south. I mean screaming.

Must be nice. A police escort to help you on your way.

Only in Thailand.

Obviously its about the driver, not the car.

Roads used to get closed regularly for the younger Thaksin son and his Ferrari.

We saw the same thing in Penang! The locals told us they were all kids from politicians and busines people and that it happens from time to time. There were about 10 -12 cars, good for millions of dollars.

Maybe it was a rehearsal for the Pattaya Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Ironic. Speeding supercars usually have police chasing them.

No problem, it's just someone more important than the rest of us.

I love it in Los when you see the motorbike guys.....free spirits, wind in the hair, riding the road, not a care in the world....except for staying behind and in front of their escort cars....

There were a half-dozen or so of these supercars parked up in front of the Royal Cliff when I went there yesterday morning. I expect they were part of the same group.

I suppose its not a bad idea given what happened to that poor policeman who got killed by the red bull heir!

Do the highway police do ANYTHING else beside provide escorts?

I have mates in the RTP who have offered me a Police Escort in from the Airport when my Parents arrived a few years back, they've also done it for other friends. I chose not to though, I didn't want to be the cause of traffic jams for the sake of getting somewhere 20 mins more quickly, it would have also embarrassed my parents !....

Some however will chose selfishness and their convenience to the cost of numerous others - selfishness and self-centredness is not an exclusive trait of the wealthy Thai's.

Jealous? I cant speak for others but certainly not in my case. I could afford one of these things but I would rather burn the money than waste it on such nonsense. They aren't even practical for use on Thai roads.

I made my money in Europe. I dare say that there are some honest rich people in Thailand who made their money on their own, and without doing anything illegal or immoral, but I dont think that they represent a very high proportion of all the wealthy people in Thailand.
