Set M Documents

Featured Replies

Just about to send off our set M application and just thought I'd check a couple of things with you guys.

1.Do we need to send our marriage cert and translation?

2.Birth certs, neither of us have one.

3.We live with my parents so do they need proof of mortgage as in settlement application?

Also has anyone used the checking service?

Kind regards

Part 11 of form SET(M) lists the documents you need to supply, and you will see from 11B that you only need to supply your marriage certificate if your original leave was granted as an unmarried partner and you have since married and are now applying as a spouse.

Don't worry about birth certificates, unless the British partner does not have a passport, in which case his/her long form certificate is required, see 11A note 6.

Although your parent's proof of ownership is not specifically requested, as you are living with them then I would provide it to show that you are able to do so.

The settlement checking service wasn't around when my wife obtained her ILR, but I would recommend using it as they will check that the application is complete and that you have included all the necessary documents before sending it off to the UKBA.
