Visa Runs...

Featured Replies

Does anyone know which country is the best place to get a tourist visa and why? What are the requirements and what is the maximum amount of time for a tourist visa for Thailand and any costs involved?

Thanks!!

Your home country would be the best choice. You could probably get a 3 entry tourist visa that would give you a stay of almost 9 months by doing 30 day extensions of each entry.

Both the embassy and consulate in Laos issue 2 entry visas that give you a total of about 6 months.

Malaysia is only single entries. Cambodia takes 4 days to issue an will only be a single.

Costs is 1000 baht per entry for a tourist visa plus cost of trip to get it.

In your home country it would depend upon the rate set by the embassy. Most are higher than 1000 baht because of addition cost for the them to operate so the typical charge is based upon an exchange rate of about 25 baht to the dollar.

The number visas you can get will depend upon the consulate you go to and can vary dependent on your travel patterns and where visas are issued.

Unless you never plan on going home I suggest a pattern of getting a 3 entry from and then a 2 entry from Laos which would give you a total of almost 15 months. Then make a trip home and get another 3 entry. Doing it this way I think you could do it for a long time.

The other option is to study Thai which would mean you would not have to make visa or border runs.
