Hi to all and a Merry Christmas!

I'm coming to the end of my last stamp on my Non O multiple visa based on having a child in Thailand. It's giving me 15 months and I'd like to stay here longer.

So I called the local Imm office which is in Lopburi and asked them about the 60 day extension. Like before the lady told me to bring the BC but to also bring my daughter.

Can anyone tell me why they need to see my daughter? I've done 3, 60 day extensions before and never had to take her.

Thanks in advance

Most immigration offices will want to see the child when making the extension.

It is the same when getting the 60 day extension for marriage in that they want wife to be along you.

Do they need to ask her any questions?

I do a little teaching in my home at the weekends ( just a few kids in my village ) for pocket money. I don't have a WP so it's a bit naughty.

So I'm a little worried if they start asking her things she might drop me in it by accident. smile.png

I would expect some questions might be asked as that is the reason you say you want to stay to it is for them to confirm you will be staying with the child.

For a 60 day extension there is no interview, but they might ask her some questions to verify you are actually living with her.

My daughter stays with me every weekend because her mother and I split up last year, I pick her up from school every Friday and she stays with me until Monday morning when I take her back to school.

Then she goes back to her mother's.

Does this warrant enough for a 60 day extension in your opinions ? Or does she have to live with me all the time?

Thanks again

Would expect approval in that case; but I am not immigration.

It sounds a little risky now and I don't want to risk losing 1,900 baht, funds are a little low due to Xmas.

My last stamp on my Non O multi runs out on the 20th of this month. I don't qualify for financial requirements so can you tell me an easier way to stay here longer?

I'm 38 from the UK and living in Saraburi.

Thanks

There is no cheaper option than the 60 day extension and do not believe you would not get. Alternatives are border crossings for 15 days each time or travel to a Consulate for a visa (perhaps Vientiane for 2 entry tourist visa the most cost effective).

Okay, I'll give it a go then. I'll pick my daughter up early from school and pop over there tomorrow and see what happens.

It would seem harsh if they didn't give me it, I'm not the only father to have shared custody (unofficial) wanting a 60 day extension..........I hope!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help Lopburi3 and Mario2008 / Ubonjoe

I don't believe the extension has anything to do with living together and it is about support. Unless they are out to get you for some reason there is going to be no questions and they are simply trying to verify she both exists and is connected to you. As somebody mentioned, no different than needing to bring your Thai wife with you for an extension based on marriage.

The 60 day extension is specific to visiting child and has nothing to do with support.

Well I went to Lopburi Imm today. I haven't been there for over a year so didn't know about the new building. I already had my form filled in and handed it to the old guy on the first counter who I recognized from the last time.

I forgot to copy the visa page and departure card so he kindly did them for me and I signed them. He was done in about 2 mins, then I went over to a table with my daughter and looked at some photos of when they opened the new building.

The boss lady on the back table, only a young girl, called me over after about 5 mins and with a nice smile said here you are, there's your 60 day extension. She spoke to my daughter but not about the extension just polite chit chat and I was out of there in less than 10 mins!

So, my advice is to myself and that is not to bloody worry about stuff too much!

Thanks again everyone you're were right as usual smile.png

Does anyone know if you can change a tourist visa to a Non O multiple visa based on having a child in Thailand at a local immigration office?

I thought I read that somewhere but can't find it.

It is possible to convert, but your local immirgation office will probably send you to bangkok for the conversion.

You must have legal custody over the child, only being on the birth certificate is not enough!

But you can only convert for single entry visa and extension of stay on basis of support of child - you can not obtain a multi entry visa inside Thailand and for child it is unlikely to be available at any local Consulate outside Thailand.

Thanks - I have no idea why I thought it was for support. I have got many of these (wife) and remember seeing at one point the extension was the same type for a child or wife. Somewhere along the lines I thought I saw it was for support but maybe that is for applying for a visa based on wife/child.
