MY gf is obtaining a 90 day non immigrant type ED visa;

is it possible to convert that to a type B visa so she can obtain a work permit, She has an offer of a job that will cover her work permit

Would she need leave Thailand and get another non immigrant visa or can they convert in Thailand?

Thanks,

Normally an exit to obtain has been reported as required in such cases and believe most employers will be expecting that.

I don't understand what u mean? so she would need leave Thailand and get another non B immigrant visa?

Ps there is a lawyer helping from the prospective employer ( its a pre school) so would that help?

any suggestions are appreicated>>

They can apply for the work permit while she is here on the ED visa, but will need to have the "B" to receive it. By other reports she will need to exit and apply for the "B" visa.

ok got ya, and Immigration can not convert ( unlike converting a tourist visa to a type O for retirement) which i guess is the only one they can do.

As she is in Phnom Penh guess we will just have the correct paperwork for the type B visa rather than do the ed and save a trip .

Thanks.

I often dont ask questions but when i do.....:-)

is this true that she can come in on a tourist visa which can than be changed in Thailand to a type B visa.

3.3 Foreign citizens who hold a Transit Visa (“TS”) or Tourist Visa

(“TR”) and wish to engage in business activities in Thailand may apply for a change of type of visa (e.g., from Tourist Visa to Non-Immigrant Visa)

OK;

For phuket can not chnage form tourist visa to non imm B

on another note; Concerning using letter from us embassy for Obtaining retirement extension.

been discussion on forums about this an this is from the immigration in Phuket

American's before could obtain a notarized letter from the embassy stating their income with no verification.

You can still pay $50 for the letter BUT u must show documentation on where the pension/income is coming from ( same as the brits now need do)

So seems that loop has been closed.

This applies to full 800,000 income and also using combination method

That is a Phuket immigration thing and is not coming from US embassy.

There are other immigration offices that want to see a bank book or some other proof that you have some money coming into the country for all income documents.

i said it was Phuket and has nothing to do with embassy,

this is an immigration demand from Americans. to go with the letter

before u did not need show bank book if u were claiming all 800,000

BUT u did need the bank book if going with the combination method.

The simple reason is that immigration only converts your stay to the proper non immigrant if you qualify for a 1 year extension.

In case of retirement meeting these qualifications is easy (funds in bank and age).

In case of employment those qualifications cannot be met as labor department will not issue your WP until you are on non immigrant b status! And holding a WP is a requirement to qualify for a 1 year extension...
