Crane rips roof off Phuket tour van

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- A retractable crane arm hanging over Patak Road in Chalong ripped the roof off a Phuket tour van full of tourists just after 9am today.

The west-bound tour van was about 200 meters from Chalong Circle when it collided with arm of the mobile crane.

The van was not overturned in the accident and at this stage no deaths or serious injuries have been reported, though many of the tourists travelling in the van suffered face lacerations and minor injuries.

The Phuket Gazette was told by an on-site witness that no one was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and that everyone was able to freely climb out of the van.

According to another news source which can’t be mentioned because of forum rule # ???..I forget.

How the crane came to be dangling over the roadway is a “mystery”.

Interesting!

What did the driver of both vehicles say?

Waiting to hear the excuses from both the crane guy and the driver. The crane should have never been there and the driver should have seen it and stopped before getting it's roof ripped off. Good thing there were only minor injuries as it sure could have been a lot worse!

Will that happen?

'Not my fault' (in/out of hospital)

'Not my fault' (after surrender?)

PHUKET: -- Two tourists and a tour guide travelling in a tour van that had its roof ripped off by a crane in Chalong yesterday are recovering in hospital, the Phuket Gazette has confirmed.

All nine occupants in the van at the time of the accident were taken to hospital, Chalong Police Sub Lt Kraisorn Boonprasob told the Gazette.

“A Russian woman and a Russian man, as well as the Thai tour guide, were all kept under observation at the hospital overnight,” a staffer at Phuket International Hospital confirmed this morning.

“They all have bruises to the body and are suffering back pain,” the staffer said.

“They have been asked to remain in the hospital until we run further tests to determine the extent of their injuries,” she added.

According to reports at the scene yesterday, the driver of the tour van suffered only minor injuries.

Sub Lt Kraisorn explained that he had yet to charge anyone over the incident.

“We have yet to question to driver of the van or the crane operator to determine in detail what exactly caused the crash,” he said.

Sub Lt Kraisorn declined to name any of the parties who may be later charged.

I often wounded about heavy equipment in Thailand what a the requirements to operate them or training required or is it just u look competent ?

Heavy Equipment Supervisors Training University, Phuket Industrial Division (HESTUPID) require all drivers to have a pulse, and work long hours for under 300 Baht/Day.

I think the only qualification you need to operate a vehicle, or heavy machiney in Thailand is to be a distant family member of the owner, and/or, work for the cheapest daily rate. :)

You have to have 'em?

Someone has to let you?

Like many times:

You have a ladder: roof engineer

You've a Pick Up: constructor

You walk around the door of your brothers motorcycle repair, and a Farang has a flat tire: you are a motorcycles repair guy, even in case, you never ever did that before!

They do, what they want. Looking competent is not the most needed skill. Pretending to be it is. And believe!
