Landind In Thaiand With A One Way Ticket

Featured Replies

I'm flying in from Singapore on a one way ticket to Thailand. What means of onward travel are exceptable eg. does it have to be a plane ticket or can it be a bus or train ticket to get out the country that I show the airline when boarding the plane in Singapore, because they say you have to prove that your leaving the country

A plane ticket (or a visa), as they can't check a busticket etc.

Is that a Thai govt requirement?

It seems pretty silly with so many land borders available.

No it's actually not usually checked by the Thais.

The airlines enforce this rule because all international airlines are subject to the IATA (International Air Transportation Association) rules for international air travel and this requirement is specified in those rules.

In the event that an airline delivers you to a destination and for some reason that country doesn't allow you to enter, the AIRLINE that brought you is obligated to remove you from that country.

That's why those airlines check for a visa or an onward ticket (out of country) when you check in ... so if you should not be allowed to enter that country the airline won't have to pay for removing you from that country that rejected your entry.

Why they don't recognize a land border ticket however I don't know.

Maybe it has something to do with not being able to verify a bus or train ticket, but I just don't know.

Many people think this is a Thai immigration requirement, bit it really is a rule stipulated by IATA.

It is also a requirement according to Thai immigration rules but they seldom ask to see the ticket but can. Which is what the IATA lists on their info for the airlines.

Another scenario is that on a one way ,you arrive , stay two weeks, have a good spend up, run out of money, who pays your fare out , your country of origin or the Thai Gov,now the shi!!t fight begins.
