PATTAYA: -- The body of a 19 year old girlfriend of an Australian resident was found in a Jomtien Condominium carpark on Friday morning, having fallen from their balcony

Police and medical services arrived at the Condo complex to find that the 19 year old had fallen 15 floors and had died instantly. Her grieving Australian boyfriend was also at the scene and was still in a state of shock as the body was removed for forensic examination. She has been named as Praporn Pimtong from Surin.

I'm starting to wonder if this is the place to come to knock someone off. It's just a little too common to be coincidence.

On the other hand, are the railings build by "standards" based on short little Asian people. When you get off the boat

at Saphan Thaksin or anywhere for that matter, the rail is well below the hip. I think a small "bump" and over one would go.

What is the standard height for a safety rail around a balcony? whistling.gif

Can't hear it anymore! And of course, as usual, an accident and always in Jomtien.

What on earth are you talking about, accident?? Two extracts from the report, Quote 1 "the body was removed for forensic examination" which I expected to read, and Quote 2, "However, at this time, the authorities were not prepared to state that the death was suicide." Now, after reading reports of hundreds of balcony fliers in Pattaya / Jomtien over the last decade +, (mainly westen expat / tourist males) I don't recall ever reading a sentence like this!! I'm not suggesting there was anything untoward going on, but it's rather an unusual statement by reporting agency's in this part of the world??

Yes, and also lets not overlook this quote from the story....

Police understand that the couple had both been in the apartment, drinking alcohol, and had had an argument which had gone on for a considerable time. Neighbours, who heard them on their balcony before the fall, said that the argument had, at one time, sounded quite violent before the girl fell from the balcony at around 1 AM .

Another poorly written story from those that sell this crap news. How old was the girl? What floor did she fall from? I mean, how hard is it to proofread a story before sending it to press? At least be consistent in your headlines and the first paragraph of the story <deleted>.

Oh yeah, and from the same news agency that claims it's against their own policy to show bodies yet that is exactly what they have done here. Showing the foreign boyfriend on his hands and knees in front of his dead girlfriend.

Very classy indeed guys.

( In keeping with our policy of NOT posting photographs of dead bodies, these photographs have been heavily edited)

What a laugh from those that exploit tragedy for a baht.

i cant stand that every time i click on the source, their streaming audio comes blasting out of my speakers.

I was in Pattaya a couple of years ago and we were looking for condo style accommodation for me, my wife and two little kids. Found a couple of really nice apartments but turned them both down as the handrails were a joke. Too low and had gaps in the railings any 5 year old could have walked through. Yes the balcony doors could have stayed closed but I wasn't willing to take the risk that somehow the kids could have walked out there. Wouldn't pass building standards in the west but hey,.. T.I.T. and things are different here and require diligence at every step to avoid potential disasters!

My ex wanted to do the same thing too -Jump! From the top floor of my Penthouse Apt. All I did was merely suggest that jumping out the window is a better option than being dishonest with me. Next thing I know my ex was already at the window sill with one leg out and the other to push out! If I had not been fast enough to heave my ex back, I would be exactly in the same situation as this Aussie guy! My ex would have jumped & died tragically! I would forever live with the guilt that I am responsible for my ex's death! God forbids! Amen.

Pathically sad. Why does someone have to kill themselves or be killed over a relationship like this that is purely transactional in nature?

As a previous poster said: 'Alcohol'

I drink it daily, never falled from a balkony or have thoughts about killing myself because of drinking alcohol.

Is this when you're standing on a balcony arguing with a 19 year old Thai girlfriend with a massive age and cultural difference in the early hours?

Anyone who has argued with their Thai partner will know how quickly the trivia can escalate into a massive issue. Thai logic is very different from those educated in the West and driven by emotion and face saving. Add alcohol to this and it can easily become expolisve.

Now you are nitpicking Semper.wink.png

Alcohol impairs judgement for a lot of people and people can engage in behaviour when drunk that they wouldnt normally do.

In so many of these cases of people falling from balconies alcohol is involved in some way.

That doesn't mean that if you drink alcohol you will fall from a balcony

Makes a change from the reverse scenario.

Farang jumps/falls => certain suicide, case closed

Thai person => investigation

Alcohol + balcony = die sure

Obviously, not all persons react the same way to being drunk.

I can alos say that I have been drunk many times and never felt the urge to kill myself while being drunk.
