Five Killed In Three Highway Crashes: Thailand

Featured Replies

"Police said the Nissan Sunny, overtaking another car from the left, crashed into the rear of a tractor carrying straw on the Phet-kasem Highway in tambon Wang Manao at 11am. Cheun Meena, 75, died after falling from the tractor, which then ran over him."

Managed to live to 75 years old until some stupid <deleted> rams him from behind. I wish the driver of the Nissan had died.

RIP K. Meena.

Tyres are both speed and load rated, and exceeding either rating can cause tyres to fail. Do you think minivan operators choose the relatively expensive tyres that a fully occupied passenger van requires for the illegal speeds that they aspire to achieve?

Speed ratings are alphabet characters where J=100 and 10km/h added for each successive letter (except H=210km/h, O is not used)

Load ratings are more complicated but for for examples 76 = 400kg/tyre, 80=450 and 84=500.

A tyre marked 185/75 R 15 84P the first numbers are tyre size (width in mm/aspect ratio) R =radial, 15 =rim diameter (in inches - d'oh) and 84P a load limit of 500kg and a speed rating of 150km/h.

Important to note that as operating weight and speed approach maximum limits, inflation pressure required becomes higher and more critical. Of course all van drivers carry a tyre pressure gauge and use it regularly.
