Thanks, Endure. My reaction, and IMO the reaction I think we all ought to be longing for, is "So what?" It simply ought not to be news.

Australia had an openly gay High Court judge from1996 to 2009 who rose to the countries second highest judicial office.

Although it was an open secret for most his career he officially came out in 1999 when he approved having his partner of thirty years listed in Who's Who. In 2002 he gave the keynote address at the opening of the international Gay Games.

England had a gay Lord Chancellor in the early 1600s, when it was a hanging offence to be gay..... Francis Bacon, Lord Verulam. Now that was something!
