webfact Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Thunderbirds creator Anderson dies Gerry Anderson, creator of the Thunderbirds and the Joe 90 puppet superhero TV shows, has died at the age of 83. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease since early 2010 and his condition had worsened in the past several months. Gerry Anderson talked about the onset of the disease in June 2012. Speaking on BBC Berkshire he said: "I don't think I realised at all. It was my wife Mary who began to notice that I would do something quite daft like putting the kettle in the sink and waiting for it to boil." Anderson died peacefully in his sleep, according to his son Jamie. Thunderbirds, a science-fiction fantasy about a daring space rescue squad, ran from 1965 and was his most famous show. His other works included, UFO, Space: 1999, Supercar and Fireball XL5. Source: http://english.ruvr....-Anderson-dies/ -- THE VOICE OF RUSSIA 2012-12-27

Nigel1500 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Vale Gerry Anderson, Someone finally cut your strings !!! How I enjoyed Thunderbirds and Space: 1999 as a child. And, like you, I wish that NASA had been able to keep pace with Hollywood.
schondie Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 RIP Gerry As a young lad I really enjoyed watching Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5. And if it hadn't of been for Gerry inspiring the South Park duo we would never of had the great film "Team America".
TomTao Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I watched Thunderbirds every day when I was a youngster, then on the weekends I would take my Thunderbirds toys and play at my friends home. His passing is a sad loss for all who were touched by the gift his imagination gave us. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect App

rotary Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Great kids shows when i was a kid. Much better than the rubbish they have now in many cases. 2
7by7 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO, Space 1999; watched them all as a kid and adolescent (never took to Joe 90, though). A pioneer of TV and special effects. Even though we sometimes extracted the urine, it was always done with affection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmvrFg-EhmI 1
Mosha Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Stingray was the 1st Children's series shown in colour. I had a toy Stingray. I launched into the sea at Blackpool and promptly lost it. Thanks for the memories Gerry. RIP As for the OP, the people who suffer from Alzheimer's are the immediate families. I was lucky with my dad, my local health authority treats it as a terminal illness. Not all do, and it affects the level of care/support.
