The Ranong 12

Someone at the Phuket Gazette had the scoop on how 12 tourists on a visa run from phuket to ranong were detained and charged with overstayed visa violations. The worst being 6 days! Evil doers! One of them was one full day overstayed!

It turns out in a bureaucratic fiasco and an attempt to thwart meth smuggling the police overacted slightly.

Anyway after four apparently harrowing days in official custody the Ranong 12 were brought back to Ranong (they visited the immigration jail in BKK it seems) and deported. Then they were subsequently allowed back into thailand just like it was a normal visa run.

So when anyone tells you not to overstay pay attention!

BTW maybe when the article hit the Phuket gazette posts the article on their site this thread could be move to the news section. Seems that I'm not allowed to start a thread there!
