In the island of Phuket, we have 1 death every two days on average.

What was the particular thing you wanted to laugh about?

Do you think that wearing local or good helmets would be the solution when run over by speeding bus or van?

I think that dogpoo's (your name did give me chuckle) title is referring to seeing three policemen riding motorbikes with police caps instead of helmets,as they are supposed to be setting an example to everyone.

Yes he did refer to it and there is nothing out of the ordinary.

There are people who use their helmets to protect their heads. There are some who use helmets to protect their wallets.

Pretty often, let's say 90% of the time, the BiB could not care less whether 1-4 persons on a scooter wear an helmet or not. This applies to the BiB as well, they'll wear the helmet when they are required to fine the people without helmets.

I'm guessing you haven't been here very long if you think the police not wearing helmets is at all amusing!

You've never seen a policeman on a bike without a helmet? I see several each and every day, and I also see them carrying their children, sometimes 2 or 3 on the bike without helmet when they go pick them up from school.

Guess you haven't been here for a long time.

If death is a laugh, then it's a very sad state of affairs, the victims of death are somebodies son, daughter, mother, father etc, to use the term "you have to laugh" is slightly disturbing.

the prison is full of people that have killed other peoples loved one ehhhh "you have to laugh" Really!!!!!

whats better, prevention or cure, the cure is not working, so through prevention "stop the deaths"

Brilliant!

Edit: removed slight insult... I'm guessing English isn't your first language?

No death is not a laughing matter at all, it is very sad that no one in authority gives a toss about road safety!! What prevention are you referring too? There are posters saying 100 per cent helmet wearing, yet the police ride without helmets( I find this mildly amusing, is this the sort of prevention you are referring too? My reference to having a laugh is directed at police driving without helmets when they should be upholding the law and setting an example!

I would like to know what prevention is being done to stop road deaths? A far as I can see it is all talk just so the population thinks things are being done!! No helmets(normal everyday occurrence, speeding and tail gating( normal everyday occurrence, driving the wrong way( normal everyday occurrence, multiple people on motorbikes( normal everyday occurrence, unroadworthy vehicles( normal on Thai roads, drunk driving( normal, sorry where is there any prevention? The police set up road blocks in the same place everyday, there are no police bikes patrolling the roads! Prevention, don't think so!! all these things are acceptable to the powers that be, death is acceptable here, all we can all hope for is that it is not one of us laying in the road!!

You do know that you're stating the obvious to anyone that's lived here a couple of years, right?

Yes of course I understand that, these things are on people's minds everyday, every now and again this discussion will be repeated!

Exactly. Its cute when newbies to Thailand state the obvious and concerned about something as trivial as a helmet law.

What next? Cutting your lawn and putting the offcuts in the empty land next door?

Are you saying its wrong to putt your grass cuttings on empty land? It's not just the helmet law people should be concerned about now is it!! Why would being new to Thailand have anything to do with being a concerned person? Does being in Thailand a long time make you unconcerned?

I couldnt care less if no-one in Thailand wears a helmet. I do wear one myself when I occasionally go to the shops by scooter. And I encourage my friends and family to wear one. Not because its the law its just I dont want to be killed or end up with brain damage. Its a fairly trivial subject which will no doubt be raised hundreds of times in this forum and others like it

Oh look, a baby in a car unrestrained and not in an approved safety seat. The horror!!!

Yes that is bad, assuming you have children is this what you do? If the answer is yes that is very concerning!! So you don't think it would be horrific if that unrestrained baby went through the window screen?

That's because you are a concerned person, but according to another if you have been here a long time that concern disappears!!

Same here, i could not care less about the money i have to pay if i break the law, i wear the helmet for myself. I have learned the hard way last year why you need to wear seatbelts. I would not be posting here if i had not worn them. I always wore them as a habit and now i found out why.

But all in all we always take risks there are people on the forum who think driving a bike is a too big a risk. Been driving one now for 7 years here but yes its a risk but it is good to use.

You should always do things for yourself and the people who matter to you, a baby unrestrained in a car is the result of a poor attitude and no thought for someone else's safety, it will be interesting to see if the other poster will answer the questions asked of him!!

No....if you have been here a long time it no longer becomes note-worthy.

Not exactly unrestrained , I lost count how many times I had seen a baby on the lap of driver , always wonder how can they concentrate on the road .

I am sure there are many many topics discussed repeatably on these forums, it is note-worthy to the people who re-open such topics, everyone has the option not to participate in these repeated threads!!

My God! There are prostitutes in Soi Bangla!

Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, yet, there they are.......brazenly plying their trade!

The police collect money from bars........but, but, they're policemen, they're not supposed to do that!

(This can go on ad nauseum..........)

You might not care les if no one else wears a helmet but I bet your attitude would change pretty quick if a drunk, unlicenced and uninsured driver/rider crashed into you and seriously injured you.

You would probably then ask. "What are they doing about all these drunks on the road?" smile.png

You are correct with your post, unfortunately we can only try to protect ourselves, the law here is non existent especially where driving is concerned.
