Mr. Preecha and Japanese Ambassador discuss over frameworks before signing FTA pact

The Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Preecha Laohapongchana (ปรีชา เลาหพงศ์ชนะ), and the Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Hideki Kobayashi, discussed the ways to open up tradings in various marketing fields. The discussion came before both countries will sign the pact of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in this April.

At the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Preecha disclosed that the purpose of the discussion is to seek measures to support the FTA negotiation. Therefore, Thailand can easily export many of its products to Japan. Previously, Thailand had been worse off due to the high imports of raw materials. However, they were bought to add more value to Thailand's products.

He said that the meeting also aimed at adding more values to Thai electronics products, supporting intelligence property investment, and promoting Thai OTOP goods in the Japanese Market. He added Japanese investors are also keen to invest in Thailand’s mega-projects.

Oh, Thailand just realised that the raw materials from Japan actually have some use in Thailand and they were not exported from there just for fun.

Thailand and Japan doing good in FTA talks, and the agreement is deemed to be signed in April as planned

Thailand and Japan are successfully wrapping up their FTA deal, with Japan having pledged to invest more, in order to help turn Thailand into Asia's center of electronics and automobile production.

The Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Hideki Kobayashi, yesterday met with the Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Preecha Laohapongchana (ปรีชา เลาหพงศ์ชนะ), to further discuss the matters of trade and investment between the two countries, which would be implemented after the signing of the FTA agreement in early April.

Mr. Preecha revealed that so far he has managed to convince Japan to loosen its import regulations and tax implementation on Thai goods, while Thailand will focus on increasing agricultural exports to Japan. In addition, Japan has pledged to inject more capital into Thailand to boost the country's potential to become Asia's center of electronics and automobile production. It also offered to help distribute Thai OTOP products to different parts of Japan and worldwide.

Concerning Thailand's current political situation, Japan said it does not worry about the matter. What it is concerned with is the transparency of the Thai government's mega-projects and procurements. The Japanese ambassador also disclosed that the Japanese Emperor will be officially attending the celebration of His Majesty the King's 60th anniversary of accession to the throne.
