Funds From Credit Card Forgery May Be Supporting Terrorism

DSI to nab the arrest of credit card forgery gangs to see whether the funds have been transferred to support terrorism.

Director of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) General Sombat Amornvivat (สมบัติ อมรวิวัฒน์ ) prepares to expand on the arrests of gangs faking credit cards to see whether the money has been channeled to fund the southern unrest.

General Sombat said that the officials in the Transnational Crime division has arrested a Malaysian man, Lee Kian Sin, in Had Yai, in connection with credit card forgery. Equipment used to steal information through wire tapping and to transfer information via internet was also seized. He said that the crime has extended to the southern part of Thailand and neighboring countries. He said that the crime needs to be expanded, adding that the police need to investigate whether the money has been channeled to support terrorist activities.

Director of the IT and technology division, General Yanpol Yangyuen (ญาณพล ยั่งยืน ) said that Thai banks and financial institutions need a detection and prevention system, adding tha the people need to be careful when using credit cards.
