Deputy Chidchai has been instructed to listen to NRC's recommendations to improve the government's work.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinnawat has asked deputy Prime Minister General Chidchai Wannasatit (ชิดชัย วรรณสถิตย์) to coordinate with the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) to listen to its recommendations on how to improve the government’s work. Meanwhile, the cabinet has agreed in principle to raise salaries of district and village chiefs as well as district doctors, in accordance to high cost of living.

Prime Minister Thaksin said that General Chidchai will adopt some recommendations made by the NRC to improve the government’s work. He also indicated that he is willing to meet the NRC if the NRC wants to meet with him to make additional suggestions.

Government spokesperson Surapong Suebwonglee (สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี) said that minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Suranan Vejjajiva (สุรนันทน์ เวชชาชีวะ) suggested that district and village chiefs, as well as doctors at district level, have played an important role in taking care of the people’s safety and push for the government’s important policies. However, he said that the salaries are not in accordance with the current cost of living. He said that minister Suranan said that the salaries should be adjusted to correspond with those of the government officials. Minister Suranan has been assigned to handle the matter and propose details during the next cabinet meeting.
