New Passport Non-B Transfer

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

Did a search about this and hearing lots of advice but nothing specifically that matches my case, so here goes:

I've applied for a renewed Canadian passport, and am expecting it in a few business days. I'll be taking a trip to China very soon for work-purposes. Currently my "old" passport (expires June this year, just less than 6 months so I wanted to get a new one) has my Non-B visa stamped in. Multiple entries (afaik no limit) and I've already left the country twice and returned with no hassle, each time warranting a new visa stamp.

When I get my new passport, do all I have to do is bring both my passports when leaving the country? Will they stamp in the non-B visa and then stamp "used" on it in one session, before I leave? Or just give an exit stamp without any visa? Or do I need to worry more about returning to the country, hoping they will stamp in the visa and not just a 30-day stamp?

Thanks for the help!

You use both passport to leave and you use both passports to enter again using the visa in old passport (if it remains valid) but being stamped in on the new passport. Visa is still valid in an expired passport.
