the last few days we have seen how devastated we can be when we loose a beloved dog.has anybody gave any thought to making provisions if [in our case] we lost our lives and our loved one became an orphan.i am sure as responsible owners the thought of our dog running the soi's,not having the love we give, the food, the living conditions ect.most of all they are going to miss you.its no different to a child loosing its parents, finding someone who you can trust to look after them.yesterday my wf.has spoke about making a will and we mentioned our dog,we are lucky that we can provide for him if the worst happened, when i mentioned a figure that we would make available for him the lawyer was not surprised as she knows him and how much we love him.most owners [thai] dont care one bit what happens to their pets as long as they bark, shit anywhere, shag anything[mind i was like that once] most of them dont even have a lead or collar.as the wf's family all live away and dont have the facilities to look after a dog who has a double coat, needs exercise early morn.6am.and evening after 6pm.enclosed area large enough for him to gallop and strech his legs,as he is a strong working dog.we dont have any children so he is our boy treated as our son and loved to bits so please let us know what you think what you would do to have peace of mind.

The only sure way of knowing what will happen to him is to have him put down. I know that is anathema to you, meatboy, but to hand him over to someone you trust is fraught with unanswered questions, Will he fit in with their lifestyle? their dogs or cats? How old will he be when you pass on (an old dog finds it harder to adjust to a new home)?

I shall leave my dogs to my Thai family to look after. I know they won't cherish them the way I do, but the dogs are fairly self-reliant, and shouldn't have too bad a life. If my Thai family decide to eat them (they do eat dogs in my village), at least they will go quickly, without a long slow, painful decline.

I know that sounds a bit brutal.... but as you say, one has to face facts.

yes having put to sleep would be my choice i dare not sugest that to the wf.i trained greyhounds for over 20yrs.when they finished racing some i kept as pets but i couldnt keep them all so i couldnt live with the thought he might be mistreated so i had them put to sleep.lets hope i go to sleep perminant before my dog.

There's an old English saying.......

'A dog is man's best friend'

but I don't think that it works the other way..........

My Thai family will take care of them after I'm gone. My wife loves all of them as much as I do and was balling this morning when my avatar passed away and I think that I have adequately provided for her/them after I'm gone.

What would you do, Traxster?

None of us likes having a beloved dog put down, but sometimes it is necessary. Indeed, some of us wish someone would do the same to us if we were terminally ill.
