having been brought up on welsh salty butter its been difficult to find a decent one in thailand,so i have been using anchor and allowrie which are exceptable.last weekend the wife bought the usuall allowrie salted,so yesterday i had some sandwich's the first bite was if i had put custard on the bread horrible i thought it must be off only to discover that what the wf.had bought was butter blend spread, same colour foil packing,42%butter,40%veg.oil,1.5%salt,1%flavour[what flavour] as the only info they give is natural colour and flavour identical added.so if stores are stocking this ? please dont mix it with the real butter.oh forgot to say its flavouring must be vanilla.

It's terrible. I hate it. I despise it. It ruins the flavour of everything it comes into contact with. Butter should be savoury but it has a bizarre sweet taste (probably the flavouring you mention). If you melt it it also has much much much more of the white solids in it. So if you want clarified butter for cooking with you have to throw away maybe 70% of the butter.

The small butter portions from allowrie taste normal. Not sure why they can't make a block of the stuff.

allowrie do a 100% butter salted which is not too bad,its got the same colour wrapping as that horrible stuff[gold] but on each sides its a map of oz with a kangaroo in the center, produced by united dairy foods.

I've sort of weaned myself off butter but I find this stuff works real well and doesn't have any 'identical' flavors. From Australia.

In USA clarified butter is most seen at fancy seafood restaurants who serve 'drawn butter' with boiled/steamed lobster. I don't use much but it keeps well in the refrigerator without absorbing any untoward flavors. After my earlier post, I went and bought some today.

In the US it isn't uncommon for even good restaurants to whip the butter, adding honey to it. They serve that with dinner rolls etc. and usually call it honey butter (who thought that up, LOL) I wonder if that would improve the flavor for things like toast or rolls? It definitely softens the texture - both the whipping and the added honey.

I weened myself off of margarine, and went for the real deal, which is far better for you than hydrogenated vegie oils..... butter.
