Nice shot of the guy with his cast net. That is a difficult cast he is doing, using a big net and on a precarious angle.

Rice planting (Mahasarakham)

Very good shot, Shaggy!. What on earth is the little girl in the back up to?

[edit] And why is the baby rice planted in an angle off approximately 60 degrees to the water line?

Thanks DAL,That is my friends Niece, she was just playing and waving to us.

Prior to that photo she had been helping the family carry bundles to the paddy where planting the rice.

Pretty amazing seeing as she was only 4 years old at the time.

I am pretty sure that the rice is that angle from when it was tied into bundles, making it a little bent.

The root and stem will be straight in the ground, only the top leaves are bent at that angle.

As the plant grows they straighten out.... that is my thoughts (I could be wrong) blink.png

Hey Shaggy noticed that lovely big roof you built and your water tower. Wow seems like forever ago now.

Look Ma, no weeds!

Dark misty days do not make photogenic opportunities but are best for real farmers.

The cassava at ma's farm is 100% gone now...and the weeds are almost gone also, only a few in between the rubber trees.

They should be gone soon also,if not then I will do it myself when I get back in a couple of weeks.

Have you had much rain?

Almost ripe 25/06/2013.

From information that I have, the flower will stay open for around two days and then close up.The fruit will ripen approximately one month after the flower closes and then can stay on the plant for 10 to 12 days (depending on birds etc) so on my reckoning,it will disappear any day now.

The weather is mostly miserable. A lot of days are overcast with dampness but real soaking rains are rare.

Hopefully it will improve in July.

Best Regards

post-140056-0-96674000-1372230117_thumb. post-140056-0-16500400-1372230181_thumb.

The above photo's are as posted on the 24th of May.

They have started to ripen as you can see in the image below and the sister has been selling between 200 and 400 baht of Paw Paw's per day from a stall in front of her house. If she is busy elsewhere,my wife does the honours for her.

post-140056-0-22341700-1372230930_thumb.

They vary in price from 15 baht for the largest to 10 baht for medium size and 5 baht for the smaller ones.
