DAL gave me a blast about NOT posting these pics in the Farming section .... so here goes.....tongue.png.... I had in Photo forum !wink.png

Newly planted Lemon Grass on a terraced slope, near Maenam Samui.... not common to see terraced slopes here, so that was number one surprise,

especially on a sandy based soil.... one hopes it will stand up to the November rains w00t.gif .... it should be well rooted in by then....wink.png

To add to another comment DAL made, that he'd only seen LG growing in wet land or near a river, my experience is I lost many lemon grass plants,

during flooding two or three years ago... so always assumed since then that they don't like wet feet!

These are certainly planted close enough together!

NB !!!! It could be Citronella rather than Lemon grass, hard to tell at this stage.... Citronella grows much taller and narrower vase shaped plant !....time will tell !!! wink.png ....

Thousands of plants!

Having just recovered from Arc eye myself it makes me cringe to see what many Thai welders use to protect their eyes and body when welding.

Our dates seem to be coming on quite nicely and had first sale to a farm up near the Rai.

Had to get the shovel in for a couple of days to remake the roads...way overgrown in the last couple of months.

Anybody know what the 'apples" are called ?...asked wiffee but still no idea.

Finally ...anyone doing Mushrooms... appear to be the " in thing" up here at the mo..

Hi Jotham79 and welcome

She looks bored.rolleyes.gif

It's the sour look on her face.......I'll get my coat.

Regards.

Up north they call it Ba Turn.

They are like women, in that if they are a bit sour, you bash them and they sweeten up.

'And before you all start bashing me, that came from my wife.smile.png

Regards.

G'day Shaggy.....great photo "Home Sweet Home", my wife also likes it and asked me where it is.

Sorry mate I've forgotten where you live, could you be so kind as to remind me.

Cheers.

Shaggy, it's probably going to be an obvious question from me but ...

What technique does the lady (your wife?) in the photo use to catch the Prawn?

What sort of Prawn is caught?

Thanks in Advance.

Neighbors wife was using a small hand held net,you must of seen them a thousand times at the farm.

What she was looking for was the small fresh water shrimp (usually about 20mm in length).

Very painstaking to do,if you are lucky you will get 5-6 at a go and maybe a small fish as well if you are lucky.

I have done it myself with a much bigger two man net, good fun to do but with little reward.

I know it might sound weird, but the Farm doesn't use many small nets.

The lady in your photo, is in shallow water and all the ponds at the farm are about 5' deep.

Apart from the Prawn nets which are maybe 3-4 metres long, this is the only other net

the Farm uses except for a pool filter style one for clearing the ponds edges of snails etc

These nest above are mainly used for feeding the fish ... but they have a variety of uses as you can see.

MissFarmGirl sent through a few recent photos and I'll scan through to see if something is good enough for here.

I have been slaving over a hot stove this morning making jam with Papaya and Cantaloupe from the sisters Papaya patch as well as a pineapple that I bought.

post-140056-0-21862700-1372749156_thumb.

The ingredients are : 2 kilo's Pineapple

1 kilo Papaya

1 kilo Cantaloupe

1/2 kilo Sugar

Juice and zest of 2 medium sised limes

( no added water)

After all this was cooked and bottled,I finished up with 2 x 400 gram jars plus a little bit more in a small jar some of which you can see on the toast in the attached thumbnail.

MFG

I was going to vote photo 2 "picture of the year". Then I saw photo 4.....whistling.gif
