greetings :o

little background for you: i am english, she is thai, we were legally married in bangrak last year but have not had any wedding celebrations yet. at the moment we are residing in the uk.

we plan to have a wedding ceremony in nonthaburi in december this year. the venue is booked but the details are yet to be decided. we will have a buddhist ceremony in the morning followed by a western style service in the afternoon. not sure exactly what we want for the western service, but an exchange of vows, a speech or two followed by a dinner party sounds about right. i am nominally church of england, but not a practising christian, and i don't really want a priest presiding over the occasion. but i do need someone to take control of the proceedings, read out the vows and generally lead the service. i am not sure who does this sort of thing and how they can be located.

does anyone have any advice?

cheers

(ps i wrote all this out once already, pressed the preview post button and was taken to the general forum screen - <deleted>? i then searched for this post but couldn't find it. please excuse me if it has been already been posted, i am a newbie and this is a confusing site!)

Most of us in Thailand sleep during the night so you may get more answers with a little wait. Also this is the weekend here and many people read TV at work so they will not be able to answer for a few days.

There is no Buddhist ceremony for marriage firstly. There are various customs but basically it would be a normal giving to the monks type of affair. But guess you have the handle on that part anyway.

I see no reason for not having the normal marriage ceremony in the evening rather than a "western" type if you have no strong religious convections. Most Thai have an evening party which sounds very much like what you plan; less the vows. Nothing religious about it. Most hotels or venue can arrange this as a package. Often there is also a singer hired and an MC to make light of the bride and groom. If 'shorty' has family here I am sure they could arrange everything. Hopefully others will be able to provide more information along your lines and am sure you could have someone read vows and repeat them if that is what you want. Just don't see the significance myself.

Thank you for the reply. The reason I want a western wedding is so I can wear the dress - hehe.

My family cannot help us find someone, they don't know anyone. Is there a professional who can read vows for us?

ps why was my hubby banned?
