almost clicked the "buy" button for a new Apple MAC 13" retina / flashy thing.

anyway, i have about 10 to 15 GB in several archives in outlook, which are searchable...... so i have almost all mails going back to 1998.........

if move to MAC

1. can the archives be accessed still ?

2. can they be indexed like W7 does so i can find something i am looking for ?

Thanks

If you buy and install Outlook for Mac (part of Office for Mac) then you can import your pst files. I doubt that you will find much useful compatibility without installing Outlook though.

Bear in mind that you will also have to replace/change all your software as Macs come with very little that is useful.

Personally I think that anyone who buys a Mac must be out of his mind.

Wow I hate Apple and Steve Jobs so much it might be seen as a personality disorder. Jobs isnt the genius he is mafe out to be, he made lots of serious mistakes and is a wotld class asshol_e.

If it were not for the iPods and now iPhone the company would not even be alive.

I grew up on Apple, mafe my living on them.

Its all about money, roping you in, control, money.

Pure evil

And iTunes is the biggest most hugest pos sw currently in distribution.

Emailchemy is an app that will import all your outlook files including archives. I have used successfully to bring in 4gB of outlook files for my work this year with no problems, very simple and straighforward to use, which is one of the best reasons for changing to a Mac.

WIsh I had done it years ago, far superior to the IBM type PC

If you can use a time machine from apple to set up your network and auto backups.

I have ipod, ipads (2) iphone (2) and apple TV, all seamless to use, and even the printer works by wifi from the time capsule. no more cables between peripherals.

Make the change, you will not regret it,

cheers

As someone suggested... switch to thunderbird which works on windows and mac and can import your archives.

Much more reliable than outlook. And free.

Thanks guys...I guess it's a matter of $ or thunderbird or the other op which looks interesting

As for slagging off apple, well I used feel it was for the low techies.... But when I changed from O2 mini using windows CE to iOS , the difference was clear.

Got my mother ( 72 ) an iPad which is alot more easier for her to use. They work well, easy to restore from back up...

Just worried about moving from Windows to MAC as I have always used windows.

That you will get. Apple do like all their products to work together well.

Yes, they just don't work with anything else.

You can still run Windows on your Mac. Either run bootcamp and install Windows on a 2nd partition or run a virtualisation program like Parallels. Then you'll have the best of both worlds on one computer and you can still use the PC version of Outlook. Reason I say this is because while there is a Mac version of Outlook, it is not the same as the PC version. The PC version is still superior.

Thunderbird also works, but note that Mozilla has already stated they will no longer develop it going forward, which means the comminity will have to step in and do it and we don't know if that's going to happen at this point. But it still works for now, and it works well. Plus like others have mentioned it's cross platform so it makes things easier if you'll be using both Windows and OS X.

You will also have the WORST of one world (PC world)--vulnerability to PC-targeted malware, spyware and viruses---possibly negating one of the reasons you crossed over the Apple.

IMHO, you're better off just getting the Mac version of MS Office. Maybe not as many bells and whistles as the PC Outlook version, but inestimably safer.

Windows 7 and up is pretty decent when it comes to security. As long as you stay up-to-date with all the security updates, follow the recommeded security settings, use an anti-virus program (the free AVG works great), and don't cruise on dodgy websites and download dodgy files you should be ok. Of course if you're torrenting porn you're bound to get a nasty virus.
