The photo stays with the Embassy/consular service in the USA as part of your file. Your passport will be returned to you with a full page stamp with the expiration date and number of entries permitted.

The UK visas have a photo on them now.

A few years ago the US was giving visas to Thai's which included the photo in the visa page.

As a Brit I just got a stamp in my passport.

The Thai Embassy will check that the photo you submit matches your passport

It is attached to your application in case they need to identify you later on.

Just live with it.
