KK is a big city with a lot of things going on. What aspects are of interest to the OP? The local forum with the obvious name and the .com suffix may help provide good information.

Just looking to meet new faces in Mueng KK

Ride a song taew near one of the KK universities with those U-girls in them tight white blouses except you actually have to look at their faces as well to meet new faces.

the city that is called "KK" in South-East-Asia is called KOTA KINABALU, and YES, it is VERY MUCH alive and a very attractive destination for all sorts of backpackers, mid-range tourists and high-end travellers.

I strongly recommend to go there and experience it by yourself.... ;-)

Khon Kaen University is called KK 'U' -- the airport is KKC. But heck I was always wondering why my Bahasa Malay got me such strange looks.

Bung Kaenakorn is nice too but not the same as looking at a new 'face' for the ride's duration about a meter in front of you.

It's nice strolling around the lake ( Bouangkak SP. ?) in the evenings , lots of food of course and the usual Thai sideshows
