Noise Pollution & Real Estate Investment & Thai Police

Your property value may plummet if a Policeman decides to open a NOISE FACTORY nearby!

The neighbors in our development have been phoning the Police and City Hall regarding the ALL NIGHT Karaoke Bar in Jomtien, Theprasit Soi 7. This bar operates until 8AM every day.

Unbelievably, after a year of complaints, another Karaoke Bar on Soi 9.... EVEN LOUDER opened for business.

You cannot even hear your own television inside your own home it is so loud sometimes.

Our neighbors are now moving away when their leases expire.

The property owner, our landlord, is beginning to lose allot of income.

Still, our landlord, the property owner, won't complain as he "has a wife and kids to worry about."

He is concerned for his families safety.

You see, the ALL NIGHT Karaoke Bar is "owned by the police" he explained.

I wonder if the buyers of the 3 brand new, huge condo developments nearby are being informed of the ALL NIGHT KARAOKE BAR DISTURBANCE?

You can sell to somebody who wants to party and play his music loud all night anyway.

Nothing special about Jomtien in this respect: you can have the same problem absolutely anywhere in Thailand. It doesn't matter where you go or what you do, there is always some clown making a pointless noise.

The solution? Never buy: just rent. That way when something appalling (bar, karaoke, disco, new condo building, chicken sheds, factory, dog kennels etc etc) starts up next door to where you live you can just leave at minimal cost.

It's very difficult to get the police to do their job. There are noise ordinances - the one I'm sure of is the 80 decibel limit for vehicles - it's on the Thai driver's license test - but never enforced. I see Thai police have set up "safety zones" in night club areas in Thailand - so maybe that is the key - if it will negatively effect tourism - the article said tourists are hearing about crime in Thailand. If they hear about annoying loud bars and avoid those areas maybe the police will do something. Where do you report though?
