Who Left 100,000 Baht In A Cab This Morning?

Featured Replies

Bangkok police say the honest driver of an orange-yellow cab turned in the equivalent of 100,000 baht in US dollars and Burmese kyat, which he said a passenger had left in his taxi this morning (Jan. 22). The driver, identified as Soodjai Chaihabutr, said he picked up a 50 to 60 year old caucasian man at Sukhumvit Soi 31 from 07:00 to 08:00 and drove him to the airport. Only later did Soodjai discover the yellow bag with the money in the back of his cab. He returned to the airport but was unable to locate the forgetful passenger.

If anyone knows who that passenger may be, tell him to call the police at 1644.

i would say the fellow was being unkind, regarding my age, but it is definitely my cash.

where do i pick it up?

Awww....shame I'm only 21. whistling.gif

Hope the guy gets his money...

What a breath of fresh air after so much negativity about Thais. Unfortunately, the owner of the money is probably on a plane somewhere and won't know how to get it back. And, he will probably figure someone just pocketed it.

I've cross-posted this on a number of forums and social networking sites. Let's see if that bears fruit.

Fantastic, I can sleep easier tonight knowing my money has been handed in by a honest Thai citizen.

I shall be sure and reward everyone involved for their help recovering my cash.

Unfortunately i'd had a heavy session on the Chang hence my mistake.

If the money has traces of yaba all over it, it's not mine.

It's mine, I can identify it: all the Thai money had pictures of the king on the bills. tongue.png

Who the h_ell carries their money in a bag? It was only US$3,000, was it in singles?

It doesn't say how much of the money was in dollars and how much was in kyat.

Soodjai Chaihabutr

I'm so forgetful, i didn't even remember until now that I took a cab from Sukh 31 to the airport. :(

If not claimed will the driver get to keep it?

this happened to me one time but only a small amount of cash and the driver came into the hotel to give it back to ... TIT not always bad

If it was mostly Kyat you'd definitely need a bag.

So the honest taxi driver gives it to the honest police. 80/20 in favour of the coppers id imagine. Job done.

And your sure you seen him walk through international departures says the copper.

Have a nice day out there.

Hope the taxi man gets a reward for being a decent chap if all is black and white here

How nice to see that there are such honest people in the world.

I wonder how many expats posting here would have returned it if this was left in their taxi?

I'm 38, but after a night in a company of my 15 month old little girl I can certainly look 50-60! Where do I collect?

I hope the true owner of the money is re-united with his cash, but I also hope his has the decency to publically thank the taxi driver and give him a reward. After all the taxi drive could have took the money home hidden it fro 6 months or so and then spent it slowly and no one would have known.

If I was the taxi driver, I can assure you, you would pay for your stupidity with 100% of the cash.
