Hi ,

I just got back from Penang where i applied for a Non Immigrant Type O Visa( Marriage) and as i received my last Type O Visa (done in Austria at the Consulate in Salzburg ) with multiple entry i was feeling that i would receive the same if i apply for it.......that proofed to be wrong.

I handed in all the papers they requested and paid ,after they explained to me that this is subject to approval. So i came back the next day to pick up my Visa and it was not approved(Type O single entry). Ok, quiet disappointed i asked him for a reason why . Because it wasn't apporved from...(whatever his supervisor's Rank) . I want to to know why it wasn't approved and than he explained that it is the first time that i applied for this kind of Visa and i told him that this is not true and pointed at the Visa (Type O multiple entry) i received last year in Austria . So finally he came up it is the first time that i applied for a Non immigrant Type O Visa in Penang ....OK , yes in Penang that is. So how about next time i asked . Yes , good chance was the answer.

I want to belive him , but i don't !!! So i ask which consulate/embassy close to Thailand does Issue Non Immigrant Visa Type O with Multiple entries?

Any feedback is appreciated,

Thank you in advance.

I received two from Singapore without any problem. But the fact that I was working there, may have helped.

Singapore is very, very tough these days. Penang is the go, but use one of the Penang agents to be certain.

Penang has, by all reports, been just fine for non-o visas (multi and single entry).

It is possible that the visa officer believed that you were attempting to circumvent the financial requirements (400k in the bank) for an extension by applying for a new visa.

At the very least I would have expected that they would issue a single entry non-o.

I am going to KL tomorrow (sunday) to attempt to get a multi non-o (I don't have the cash for the extension, work has been thin :D ). I'll let everyone know how I got on.

All limbs crossed :D:)

Crossy/Lopburi,

So, Extension of type O vsia requires 400k. Correct? How much do you need for new type O visa? (In Malaysia)

An extension of stay to support Thai wife from an immigration office requires 400k.

There is no requirement for a non immigrant O visa from a Consulate other than a copy of the marriage certificate and perhaps a copy of id card of wife (although they can require more). Penang will usually provide a multi entry type but most other will only give a single entry with the expectation that you will extend your stay through the above option during that entry.

Lopburi3,

Intersting. I just came back from Penang (last Saturday) where I applied for a NI-O and was refused because I didn't have documentation to show money in the bank.

Seems as tho "money in the bank for NI-O" is now a requirment.

My request was just for me. Not a married visa. Does that make a difference?

Of course it makes a difference. You have no right to a non immigrant O visa just by being "me". If you are married to a Thai you do have a reason. If you intend to retire here you do have a reason. If you are over age 50 they will normally provide a multi entry O visa if you can show 200k in a Thai bank account (although this is not written in stone anywhere).

I believe he did get a single entry O. But agree the wording in his posts does not make it clear.

Sorry for my wording , i did get the single entry non immigrant type O(marriage) , but i was rather hoping for the multiple entry ... :o

Just got back last Thursday 23/2 from KL. While there applied and got Non Immigrant (married to Thai) O visa with multiple entry without any problem whatsoever.

Cost was MR 500 approx 5500 Baht.

Documents with application were copy of passports (wife and self), copy of marriage certificate (the lady compared the copy with the original which we had with us) and copy of wifes house registration.

No financial data was offered or asked for.

Wife was with me.

To confirm Malcolm's info. No problem in KL, non-o multi-entry based on marriage to a Thai:-

Passport & copy

Marriage cert (UK) & copy

Wife's passport & copy

Wife's ID card (asked for as she was with me) & copy

Cost RM 500

I'm not sure if the presence of my wife had any bearing on the ease with which I got my visa, she came to see KL (never been) and to meet with some friends from the UK who now live there.
