Pleasant Experience With My O Visa On Arrival, And Coming Back From Laos

Featured Replies

I travel for work out side Thailand , when I come and go it is in an O visa.

The usual at immigration at the air port until he seen all my stamps for Thailand and he smiled and said u have Thai wife in nontaburi , he knew it from my stamps from the nontaburi immigration. I told him my wife and kids were here to get me and we had a good conversation, he also said O visa good visa to my surprise that he said that.

Happened again when my family and I went in to Laos on the weekend I went to Thai immigration coming back in to thailand with my multiple Thai O visa. When he looked in my passport with the various past stamps and things he smiled and replied very good u have O visa. Very pleasant to deal with and smiles.

We got stopped on the way back from Laos by he police and he looked at my passport stamps and then smiled and we were on our way.

I noticed when I renewed my drivers license and other things like banking and various things when they see my 0 visa the experience seems to change.

I like having a O visa I seem to have different experiences than others with different visas, do others on here with O visas find similar ?

I currently have a multi O visa that I will be switching to a retirement visa soon. The advantage for me will be not having to do visa runs, simply reporting in locally (in my case Korat). I've read some nightmare experiences from people with marriage visas on another forum, so although I qualify, the retirement visa looks to be easier to get and renew.

An extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai lady is not all that hard to get. Some people that say that it is are using possibly outdated information or a few stories (or rumors) of it being difficult. It just takes a few extra documents and copies plus a 30 day wait while they consider your application before getting the extension stamp. It is certainly worth it to save showing an extra 25K a month income or double the money in the bank for a retirement extension. Plus you can get a work permit on this extension.

Same response I get every time I come into Thailand with my non b visa that has been extended nearly ten yeas. They like to see people following the rules and getting the correct visa to be here on a long term basis. Nothing to do with you being married to a Thai woman. But you are correct it is nice to see the immigration officers smile and make a polite comment.

Never had any problem with the multi O and never had the cash for long enough for extension of stay for spouse.

Immigration advised me if I want an extension of stay no problem. Only need the 400,000 in the bank for one day, no need to prove anything about where the money comes from and they will issue an extension of stay for support of child.

May try that this year when my O runs out. Jim

Great positive report!

Loosing the O visa is the only big loss i got from my divorcecrying.gif

You might be correct Parker's in order dates stamps , it's a good thing to see for the customs officers for sure. And with a Ovisa they know u are not just a touristy are integrating into thai society .

I have an 'O' visa but I wouldn't say I was integrating into Thai society unsure.png .

While some consulates require an attestation that you're still married when applying for a Non Imm O based on marriage -- most don't.

Don't really want to suggest anything unethical -- but marriage certificates aren't stamped 'void' upon divorce, to the best of my knowledge (but if a Thai marriage certificate, maybe so -- I dunno(?))

Upon divorce you give the wedding certificate back to the amphur and instead receive a divorce certificate.

Strange topic. I have had O and B visas for the last 8 years. I travel a lot for work also, my current passport which is 18 months old has 34 in/out stamps in it, never once have immigration told me I have a good visa. That's in probably nearing 200 exit/entries.

Sounds like the OP has delusions of granduer from what I assume is a newly acquired O visa wacko.png

Get over yourself OP, it's nothing special, probably hundreds of thousands issued every year rolleyes.gif

I think they get tired of seeing people coming and going for years on tourist visas, that will probably be the next crack down something like only 2 in one year.
