Quality English Speaking Tv Programs

Is anyone aware of good free satellite tv programs in English? How about world news programs?

I am at a loss for finding good quality news and documentaries in english on Thai satellites. I recently installed a satellite dish to receive IPM programs. I am very disappointed. Of the over 100 channels available, I have only found 3 or 4 english channels. No english news channels and very often repeat documentaries. True Move satellite tv is out of the question as it is way too expensive.

Anybody have any success stories in finding free english speaking tv programs on all the satellites available in Thailand? Also, are their any US military retirees receiving Armed Forces Network (AFN TV) here in Issan? This would be suitable, but I don't know how to obtain the decoder or have it set up.

If your are not up to pay TV, the alternative is a fairly expensive big C-band satellite dish.

Forget about the Thai satellite position (Thaicom on 78 degress east).

Best is C band dish which is moveable by motor.

With that you will have a couple of choices e.g. on

AsiaSat 3S: http://www.lyngsat.com/AsiaSat-3S.html (misc. incl. VoA)

Intelsat 19: http://www.lyngsat.c...ntelsat-19.html (BBC World, Australia)

(look for the light yellow colored entries only ["SD clear"], others are scrambled/pay TV)

Just checked: a fairly small dish necessary for both, 1,80m (6 foot).

For Intelsat even a smaller one is feasible.

But probably you will need more advise by an expert (a good position for mounting is required).

You will have to do some math concerning the investment.

You don't have highspeed internet?

A hint on cost can be found here:

http://www.jsat.tv/packs.html

They suggest a system with a fixed 7 foot dish for 13'000 Baht to receive Intelsat 19 (one time invest).

Maybe you can get it cheaper at a local dealer.

Loads of other info on jsat.

Google for "thailand satellite tv dish" and you will find more thaivisa threads on the topic.
