MikeWill Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) I tried to upgrade my SGS3 from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via: Setting > About device > Software Update > Update And after checking for update I always got a message: "Access to the Software update ... Try later." So, I went to Samsung shop in Silom and they told me that I will loose all my data and settings. They recommend me to go to the Samsung shop in Siam Paragon (2nd floor), as they could do it without the lost of data/settings. Does anyone tried it? Please share your experience. P.S. My phone model is: GT-19300T Android: 4.1.1 Edited January 31, 2013 by MikeWill
thaimite Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) This usually happens just after an update is announced. The 2 easy choices are 1. Wait for a day or two until the servers are less busy and you should get the OTA update 2. Use Kies. Connect your phone to your PC start kies and download install the update. There is an option to back up your data doing it this way which is always wise, but I have never lost any data data during a Samsung update. You will loose a lot of settings though, and have to re-apply default apps, ringtones, screen savers etc. Edited January 31, 2013 by thaimite
MikeWill Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Surprise, surprise.. Today, I opened my PC's Kies (Lite) and it found and offered me to install the update. Which I did, and now, after a half an hour process, I'm on Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Everything went smoothly, my system setting and data are in tact. No problems. 1
2unique Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Mate got it 2 weeks ago on AIS, came thru on Drac today.
Sam Drucker Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Just got my OTA upgrade two days ago for my GT-N7100 Note II from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 It took several separate steps during the process, I think three separate upgrades. All's fine with it. I would be leary of having a shop do the upgrade. When I got ICS last June at a Samsung service center, the guy upgraded it, then proceeded to perform (an unneeded) factory reset and blow away all my data. It had been confusing to me at the time that they called the internal memory "SD"; I had backed up to "SD" and removed my SD card for the upgrade, thinking it had saved to the SD card. WRONG! The SD card is called "Ext SD". Still, I fault the Samsung tech for performing an unnecessary factory reset. Seems the backups available now with the Samsung account are much better than they were just 8 months ago.
hyperdimension Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Is it common at all to have a slower user experience on the phone after an OS upgrade?
MikeWill Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 More one upgrade comes to my Galaxy S3 GT-I9300T today. It was called Firmware upgrade, and it offered as soon as I connected my phone to Samsung Kies (Lite) on my PC. The upgrade took some 20-25 min, went fine and at the end the Android version remained 4.1.2. What was that?
