PATTAYA:--Pattaya Fire Fighters were called to the front of Pattaya City Hall in North Pattaya on Sunday Night to deal with an LPG car explosion.

A Blue Toyota Corona owned by Khun Somshai aged 35 was well alight and after 20 minutes the fire was extinguished. The Engine compartment sustained major damage but the fire luckily failed to reach an LPG tank in the boot of the car.

newsjsIt was discovered that Khun Somshai had earlier broken down in front of City Hall and walked to a nearby garage where 4 men were dispatched to inspect the vehicle. It was determined that the car needed to be towed away and the tow truck was called to the location.

Yep, I think I'd be angry too:-

More than one hour passed and the tow truck has still not arrived. The four mechanics lost patience and decided to attempt to restart the car themselves while its owner waited at the garage. As they attempted to start the engine a small explosion in the engine compartment occurred which made all four men run for cover as they were aware the car was powered by LPG.

Police attended but will take no action. Khun Somshai is now in angry discussions with the garage over the incident which appears to have been caused by the four mechanics.

This was probably an electrical fire, The tank did not explode, infact a lpg tank is far more safer than a petrol tank. Lpg being a heavy gas usually sinks away if it leaks.

Good place to breakdown though, now if he had only parked closer to the building :)

The interesting part is ... FOUR mechanics were dispatched to inspect the car. ONLY in Thailand would a garage send more than one mechanic. In Thailand everything requires four or more people to discuss and solve the simplest of problems.
