My WP expires at the end of this month. My extension of stay expires on the same day as the WP. Went to labour department (Din Daeng) for renewal of WP, all documents ok, but officer requested me to first get a new extension of stay (the "under consideration" stamp) from immigration before he can accept the documents for WP renewal. I was a bit surprised because my gut instinct tells me immigration (Chaeng Watthana) will not give me the extension of stay ('under consideration') before I show them the new, renewed work permit. Am I wrong?

FYI, I fall in category 7.20 under police order 606/2549 and yes I have the letter noted under 3 (Confirmation letter and

request issued by the chief of the government agency concerned) requesting immigration to extend my stay for 6 months.

Would like to hear your opinion so I don't waste my time at immigration.

When you apply/renew a WP, they can give you a form - WP3 - that you can show to immigration. It tells them that the WP app is okay, waiting for an extension.

Normally this is used by people getting visas, but I don't know why it wouldn't work the same with immigration.

Get a name and phone number of someone at the Labor Office in case the immigration officer has a question. Pays to be prepared.

The police order you mentioned was rescinded over 4 years ago and replaced by 777/2551. The new clause is 2.21. For documents required it is 305/2551
