Ouble Pricing Tool For Tourists

Featured Replies

Whether double pricing for tourists is fair, reasonable or justifieable, it is dishonest to hide them behind Thai numerals.

There is now a FREE Android App to help tourists see how much more they are being charged at attractions like Siam Ocean World and Madame Tussades and then make informed decisions on whether the difference is fair or reasonable.

Search GooglePlay for "ThaiPrice"

I pay the Thai price so not interesting for me.

I pay the Thai price so not interesting for me.

Congratulations. They'll just think you can't afford the farang price.

Thanks for posting OP. I'm sure it will be very useful.

I can afford the farang price, but as I have a Thai DL, and know many people in both attractions, why should I pay the higher price.

Everyone knows that the prices are higher for tourists, if you want to go in then pay the price if you don't want to go in then don't, easy. Also the staff speak enough English for you to find out the price and brochures are in English too.

Well I can afford the Farang price, but why when I have a Thai DL. Also I am personally known to staff in both attractions.

If you want to find out the prices then ask or read the brochures, everyone knows that tourists pay more.

What difference does it make? The tourist is going to pay the tourist price no matter what. Live with it, same all over the world. Learn how to negotiate and know what things cost. There is a 7% VAT tax too. So how do you take that into account with the App? If you buy something here, get a VAT tax recipt and get you money back at the airport when you leave.

Prices often range from 100B to 500B and if they can't calculate the difference between $3, $6, $9, $12, $15, etc. which is the difference in most cases, they deserved to get taken.

Oh and by the way, the two places you mentioned are poor examples, both aren't even worth the Thai prices. Been to both.

And I don't buy something with double pricing, no matter if I get Thai or Farang price.

Exception are nationalparks where I understand the need of money (even if it does not end where it should).

Goods only PP10 form, and you have to make sure you spend a certain amount, sorry but bar fines also do not count.

Vat Tax can only be refunded at places that offer the refund. All major stores will have it including some tourist attractions. Look for the signs showing "VAT Tax Refund". If you don't see the sign it isn't available...it's that simple. It doesn't hurt to ask just in case.

Tourist attractions only if you purchase merchandise.

You've totally missed the OP's point.

Someplaces may show the Thai price in Thai characters which most foreigners will not understand

๑๐ instead of 100

๕๐๐ instead of 500

how will this help tourists?

When ever I go on holiday.

I don't even look at prices,as I know I have ample spending money.

my Thai wife will not let me pay Falang prices. she argues that I am Thai same as her, then keeps the difference.rolleyes.gif

99% of tourists have been penny pinching all year to go on holiday.

When on holiday they don't care and pay the price, no worries.

It's a good app to have if you live here and don't read Thai, however it could be annoying once your eyes where opened to the full scale of dual pricing.

Anyone living here can learn 10 numbers in a day.

You could just learn the Thai numerals ....... takes about an hour.

Would you be surprised that people have been in Thailand for years and only know about Pattay. never been anywhere else in Thailand. and that's how they know Thai culture so well.

Interesting that both places are owned by the same company.

Why didn't you like Siam Ocean World? Are there better aquariums around? I've never paid to go to SOW, but I've been there a lot and always found it to be quite interesting. Mind you, I wouldn't come to Thailand on holidays and then go to SOW.

I learnt Thai numerals by studying Thai banknotes.

Very basic displays and the "tunnel" was just not worth the short walk through in my opinion. I think I walked through the whole thing in 30 minutes. Phuket has a better one with more interesting displays and exhibits. Just very overpriced for what you get. They said they did an upgrade expansion but I haven't been there since it was supposedly done. Many of my Thai friends say the same thing. Waste of money.
