Somalia sentences allegedly raped woman and journalist convering story - UN < br />

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- The United Nations (UN) on Tuesday voiced deep disappointment after a woman who had been allegedly raped and a journalist covering the incident were sentenced to prison in Somalia.

The woman who had claimed to have been raped in September by armed men in government uniforms while living in a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs), was arrested last month, along with journalist Abdiaziz Abdinur Ibrahim who interviewed her. A third person who introduced them both was also arrested during that time.

Ibrahim was charged for offending the honor of a State institution and for filing a false report in spite of never having published his interview, while the alleged victim was charged for offending the honor of a State institution.

Two other individuals have also been charged in connection with the case.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson said he urges the Government of Somalia to ensure that "all allegations of sexual violence are investigated fully and perpetrators are brought to justice."

"Above all, it is essential that the rights of the alleged victim and the journalist to a fair and transparent judicial process, including the right of appeal, are fully respected," the spokesman added.

In a statement, the UN said it has repeatedly expressed alarm over reports of pervasive sexual violence in IDP camps in and around Mogadishu, which are commonly unreported because of risks to victims, witnesses and family members, as well as of intense stigmatization.

The UN Political Office in Somalia (UNPOS) as well as the Secretary-General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Zainab Hawa Bangura, had spoken out in recent weeks about the case, urging that the alleged crimes be investigated and that a fair judicial process be ensured.

I wonder if the feminazis are gonna pick this up...

Probably not..

Of course not. It's only a crime if it's wicked ( all of us ) western men perpetrating it. Much as the left states that only whites can be racist.

Yes, imaginary glass ceilings and vestigial gender specific vocabulary are of far more interest I suspect. Regarding the case it demonstrates exactly the same point as our misguided intervention in Afghanistan does, namely there is but a cigarette paper's difference between the government western powers back and the extremists they fight.

Are you suggesting that liberals and muslims have formed an unholy alliance?

Don't know how Muslims feel about it, but when did you last hear a prominent liberal accusing Muslims of anything bad?

Indeed, I suppose Islam is such a good fit with other favoured liberal causes such as women's lib, gay rights or renewable energy.

Isn't Somalia a right-wing Utopia? No government restricting free entrepreneurship. No taxation. No gun regulation whatsoever. No abortions, not even in case of rape. You can stone your wife if she screws some other man. You can stone her if she doesn't do what she is told. There isn't even a word for 'feminism' in Arabic. God is the head of state, and all the comprehensible rules are laid down in a good book. Perfect. isn't it?

And justice for stealing a few potatoes is beating with bats, placing tires around their heads, dousing them gasoline and lighting them on fire.

And lo and behold here we have the same thing almost in Afghanistan, the current regime is the 'freedom' we fought for at the cost of thousands of lives.

http://frontpagemag....rry-her-rapist/

A year after she was pardoned from prison on the condition she agree to marry her rapist, a young Afghan woman, faced with distressingly few options, has now reluctantly wed her attacker.

If you read the article you can imho only conclude that such a culture that allowed this to happen is backward, barbaric and downright evil. No worries for European women though, under current demographics at least.
