News_Editor Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Mexico: Gunmen rape six Spanish women in Acapulco < br /> 2013-02-06 11:54:18 GMT+7 (ICT) ACAPULCO, MEXICO (BNO NEWS) -- A group of gunmen raided a vacation cabin in a Mexican beach resort and sexually abused six female Spanish nationals, local authorities said Tuesday. The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. local time, when a group of five hooded gunmen broke into a beach side bungalow beside the Bambuddha Hotel in Mexico's popular tourist destination, Acapulco, Guerrero. The gunmen tied up eight people and sexually abused the six women on a number of occasions before exiting the bungalow, located in the Barra Vieja area, around two hours later. The attackers also took two laptops, three digital cameras, two tablets, sixteen cellphones, credit cards, wallets, and around 8,800 pesos ($700), among other items. Acapulco Mayor, Luis Walton Aburto, through his Twitter account condemned the incident and "any type of violence, especially against women. It's a shame that this happened in Acapulco." Walton was criticized shortly after the news broke out for his initial statement in which he said "this happens anywhere, in Acapulco or in Mexico." He quickly apologized through social media again, saying his words were misunderstood and "never had the intention of hurting the victims or minimizing the incident." Local and state authorities set up increased security measures in the area after investigations were concluded at around 12 p.m. local time. Agents from the Attorney General's Office took bed sheets, towels, and other items from the bungalow for further examinations. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2013-02-06
F430murci Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) I thought it was seven that were tied up with their bikinis and gang raped in Acapulco. 6 Spanish and one Mexican girl with 7 guys present. They are lucky they did not get tortured, cut up alive, killed and dismembered. That is common occurrence in Acapulco. http://m.ibtimes.co.uk/mexico-tourists-rape-gang-acapulco-spanish-431591.html Edited February 6, 2013 by F430murci
submaniac Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Mexico had gotten a very bad rep with gringos north of the border due to crime. Yeah usually it ends up wih someone being cut up. And as an aside Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws of any country...I see its workin out for them real well.
Scott Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 There 'strict laws' are not enforced. Let's stick to the topic of the OP.

There is zero enforcement of any laws in Mexico right now asany states have no police, no politicians and no judges. They have either been executed, went into hiding or are bought off and work for cartels. 80 to 90 percent of murders down there are not investigated. These rapes will not likely be investigated and stuff like this generally only gets reported if happens to foreigners. Cops, judges , lawyers and mayors get kidnapped tortured and dismembered leaving no one to defend the civilians but the civilians themselves. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/01/world/americas/in-mexico-vigilante-villagers-plan-to-try-53-prisoners.html?_r=1& http://www.insightcrime.org/news-analysis/vigilantes-fight-criminal-acapulco-mexico Most jails and Mexican border control are all cartel or controlled by cartel. If they refuse, cartel kills there entire families, not just them. The only weapon enforcement will be if a US citizen takes a gun into Mexico that is not for cartel, but for themselves. They will then be arrested, placed in jail and will be instructed to call someone in US and say their life is in danger and they will die if they don't start sending money.

Bwanatickey Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Heard about this today on Radio4 BBC From our own correspondant. It was horrific, there is a large Spanish community living in Mexico and they are traumatised. The reporter stated that the attack was far worse than reported.

submaniac Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) ^and if it were not from the United States it would be another country. Try brazil, one of the largest producers of firearms (at least for a country of its size). If you make guns illegal, then the criminals will have them. Mexico has proven that. And the situation is more messed up in Mexico than people realize. There are always reports of violent crimes. Tourists having their heads cut off for a small drug deal going bad. The naked body of dismembered mayors being found on the side of the road. Mexico used to be a popular destination for College spring break students but they are generally staying in this USA now for fear of violence. The violence is not being limited to drug dealers or criminals either. It's a near war zone over there with everyone being caught in the crossfire. This is what this story illustrates. You could be a tourist minding your business at your own villa and you would be in danger. It is that much of a state of lawlessness in Mexico right now. Every now and then the question pops up "is Mexico a good alternative to Thailand?" If you really knew about Mexico...Thailand is nowhere near as dangerous. Edited February 9, 2013 by submaniac
F430murci Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Nah, they get their guns from US and mostly from US. 80 to 90 percent of all weapons confiscated in Mexico came through or from US. They go to Texas gun shows and buy through the loop holes every AR or knock off AK they can find for $2,500 cash a gun. The gun dealers and manufacturers make millions as the guns are distributed by the gun dealers buddies who just buy and resell to Mexican cartel while sitting right next to licensed dealer they purchase from. Any wonder why so many are so against gun control. They make money and lots of it and most of these folks probably have nothing to fall back on, like education or valuable trade, if gun money is taken away. Seems like US arms most countries and terrorists organizations throughout the world. Nothing like getting rich off the misery of others. Regarding Mexican destinations, Cancun is still safe and the State of Yucatan is generally safe. Mexico had something like 22.7 million tourist in 2011 mostly to Yucatan and tourism is at highest levels every due to expansion of Yucatan. At least according to recent article I read about this rape case and impact the narco war has had in Mexican tourism. I do agree to stay the heck out if there though. Most people go because it is cheap and Yucatan is actually fun.
