we just bought a minivan from BMTA in BKK (transport authority) that has orange reg plates on it. The van needs to be re-registered for private use in Suphan. Does anyone know what this entails? The wife is handling it remotely from Bahrain with her brother doing the leg work in Thailand but he doesn't have a clue how to proceed. Seems he has to go to BKK to de-register the van before he can proceed involving fees and other BS.

Help ol' tutsi out...

You need to take to land transport dept in Bangkok for an inspection, and notify them you're moving the registration to another province (Jaeng Yai).

15 days later take the van to Supan transport dept and notification should have arrived and you'll get new plates, tax sticker from there. Done.

A van from the BMA must have a million KLMS on it!!!

thanks terdsak...that helps to clarify things.

Yeah...the van is 10 years old with high miles but the brother-in-law is a professional driver and said it was a good deal at the price. We only intend to use it locally in Suphan with only occasional trips elsewhere so should be OK...
